So I was just going through a stack of blu-rays which I have been meaning to donate to a local library since I have upgraded them to 4K, when I remembered that I had a bunch of slipcases from them stashed away in a drawer. They had been there for YEARS, since I somehow didn't appreciate them upon purchase. I'm now grateful to past me that I hadn't just binned them because some of them are quite cool. I especially liked the lenticular case for Watchmen and the metal slipcase for Gladiator. They look really nice, and I had totally forgotten ever having them! I think the library will be receiving a few less blurays than I had planned... πŸ˜„

I stashed a bunch of them in a cabinet because all they achieved was making it take longer to access the disks. Once I moved everything onto the NAS, I put the cases back on since I have no need to touch the disks again.

Still don't appreciate them.

Side note: If your edition has the "motion comic" disc and you've never watched it (or read the comic), set aside some time for it. Yes, it's more than five hours, but it gives much more insight into the story. A friend and I watched it one weekend and both of us thought it was worth it.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) will not be getting a local physical 4K Ultra HD release. So, it's gonna be an American import for me. A 4-Movie box set would be my preference, although it's possible that there will be another two films in the series. Maybe I should buy the 3-Film Collection at its rather decent price and then add the others individually later... mmm πŸ€”

EDIT: Damn, sold out on Amazon US. EzyDVD have all three titles at $14.97 each. If I wait for a 20% off sale, they would be $11.97 each. The saving would pay for shipping πŸ€”πŸ˜

If like me you were keen on the new Mad Max: Fury Road steelbook but balked at the price, Amazon.com.au has dropped it to a far more palatable $58 NZ. The US site also has the discount but is doing its thing where it won’t ship from UK to NZ.
Really plleased to pick it up, as its design compliments the upcoming Furiosa steelbook.

Of course, the free shipping threshold is $59. I opted for the blu ray of teen classic Pump Up The Volume to get it there.

Movieman: Anyone who missed out; Karl has managed to get more stock of Andor, The Mandalorian season 1 & 2 and Obi-Wan Kenobi SteelBooks. Available from JBNZ website now. Don’t delay!

Thanks for the info.  I missed out on the initial stock for Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi, and have just made an online purchase for both.

The Fact that these appear to have sold so well is hopefully a sign to importers that there is demand here if they are prepared to bring them into the country

THE CITY OF LOST CHILDREN (1995) Classics Remastered

Release Date Australia: July 3rd • Release Date NZ: July 3rd

The City of Lost Children is a dazzling fantasy adventure from Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro, creators of Delicatessen and has been newly restored. When Krank's henchmen kidnap his brother, local fisherman and former circus strongman One (Hellboy's Ron Perlman) sets out on a journey to Krank's nightmarish laboratory, accompanied by a little orphan girl called Miette.

With stunning visuals from Darius Khondji, costumes from Jean Paul Gaultier and a haunting score by Angelo Badalamenti, The City of Lost Children cemented Jeunet and Caro's reputation as filmmakers with a unique vision.

Nothing confirmed, but it's a definite possibility after the success of Karl's other imports.

I'm rolling the dice on the Mandalorians making it to the assumed Matariki sale. I'll leave it in the hands of the force, this is the way... πŸ˜†
