east: On a side note, they said they'll be running 8 simultanious 24hr HD channels dedicated to olympics coverage during the 2012 games, plus prime playing olympic coverage 22 hrs a day, so they must be buying some extra capacity before then...

How are they doing that? dont TVNZ have the NZ rights to the olympics?

TVNZ have the 2008 olympics, Sky have the 2010 Winter and 2012 Summer games.

Glad to see they're trying to sell a product today for something the are going to provide in 4 years time.

Also, is the $10 HD content required? Even if you don't want it? We don't have a Hidef Tv ( Got a 6 y/o 43" Rear Projection).

dnn:

I'm still interested in the best way to upgrade from Sky Digital to MySky HDi.
Someone said here, they're upgrading from Sky Digital to MySky SD this week and then to MySky HDi as soon as it's released and getting 4 months free. Can anyone clarify this? Or do you only get free months if you keep 2 Sky boxes and pay for multi room? I can't find any info about 4 months free!

All I'd like to do is upgrade from Sky Digital to MySky HDi in the cheapest way possible. Don't want multi room.

The 4 months free is for multi room. Normally multiroom costs $25 for second decoder. The $25 is waived for first 4 months.

There is a $10 a month HD charge on top of normal subscription. If have multi room $10 charge is waived, i.e multi room in effect costing $15 more then if single decoder.

If you don't want multiroom probably best to upgrade straight to HD box. Maybe person that's going mysky1 etc doing it so can have the second decoder as a mysky 1 instead of standard decoder with their multiroom.

Yeah, by then I'm hoping IPTV and broadband will be good enough to provide a few more options...

I'm not counting on it though.

With the MySKY how do I get stuff onto dvd-r discs as I have a DVD recorder. I saw on SKY's website that you can record programmes from the MySKY to the DVD recorder. Anyone no about this?

So because I went a bought a 40" Sony WS screen last year at XXXXX$$$$$ and a DVD recorder to replace my VHS and I have been a Sky subscriber for the last 12 years, it is going to cost me another $10 a month plus the cost of a new box just to watch the same old same old? Cry

No, it's not compulsory. You can get the MySky HDi box and just have a normal subscription. You'll also be able to get TV3's HD content without paying the $10 HD access fee. That's my understanding anyway.

That's awesome to hear east . I'll definitly look into it a bit more before booking an upgrade. Will Sky provide component cables? At the moment we are just using RCA composite cables with the old black Sky dig box.

Yeah I could be wrong but I think the $10 fee gives you access to the premium HD stuff (ie movies/sport) but TV3 and Prime will be part of the non $10 fee.

Not sure about cables. They were more interested in wowing us with the HD footage than letting us in on the nitty gritty. I'm sure they'd provide HDMI, but I don't know about component.

It says on the PCWorld post that TV3 HD content will be available on MySky HDi. Does anybody know anything about this?

So does this spell the end for the Rugby channel?

Presumably SS1 will be 16x9 in HD
