Must've been the auto-decoding on my receiver Jono - I'll have to have a look, but I know this is the wrong place for it...

THE MIGHTY MANAWATU WON! Even if the signal was being upscaled! Geez, sky was lucky that transmission returned just in time, otherwise I was just about to chuck the new MySky box through the window!!!!

DMC: Got my myskyhdi installed this morning. Reasonably quick process, probably about 30 or 40 minutes to be put two in - replacing one mysky and one digital decoder.

So you've got two HDi's now? What was the deal - just an extra $15 p.m. for the additional HD box over the normal multi-room price? I can see our place heading the same way as the arguments have already started.

motorgpnz - I previously had two myskys and a motorola so replaced one of the myskys and the motorola. They charged me $49 each to do the upgrade. Not quite the same situation as you.

I believe I am paying an extra $50 (above the single decoder package) for two multirooms and that is it. The HD ticket is waived because I have multiroom and in my case no extra monthly charge because I effectively paid $599x2 between two and three years ago for the two myskys. I took the same view - spend the money to avoid the family conflicts

in respect of the rugby tonight great result and a fantastic picture on the big screen, clarity was superb, will be quite aggravating when have to watch future games that are not in HD - can't understand why they don't do rugby channel in HD

Thanks for that. My first thought was that 2xHDi would be overkill but now I'm not so sure. We went straight from 2x standard boxes so it was a big step anyway.

Yeah, great result in all respects right up until the box froze when I went to delete the rugby when we finished watching it a few minutes ago. Now it looks like Star Wars may get lost if I have to reboot.

I think a lot of people will ditch the rugby channel now SS1 and 2 are in widescreen, just be a few like me who want to see NH rugby.
They might be forced to go HD or lose too many people paying the extra sub.

You do not lose any content with a reboot.

I think you do. Pressed the red button and Star Wars showed "failed" on the planner and only offered the yellow button. Someone mentioned the same thing elsewhere.

Edit: You lose anything currently recording. Any completed recordings are still available.

Poss off topic, but why should I PAY to watch television (noting that subscription TV still contains advertising)? Dunno about Sky HD, but every time I have seen vanilla satellite Sky SD, the pic is low bandwidth rubbish, what makes the the latest offering any better? Just say no.

The very simple answer to your question is that you don't have to pay. The fact that some people do means that, for them, there is a value in doing so.

Yeah - I guess if you're willing to pay for something, then that's what choice is all about. I think Sky's HD is a bit expensive, considering quite a bit seems to be upscaled, but I'm still prepared to pay for it.

Just to add more feedback - I've also experienced the new box locking, while it's recording. Both times it was while two channels were recording and I was viewing something stored. Just locked the box and it was no use hitting the front panel/remote on/off button. Had to reboot the box as per old MySky, and both programmes being recorded at the time failed. I had to do this every month or so on the old box, so I hope it doesn't continue at this rate on the new.

My installer also said not to touch the reset button under the front cover where the card is. He said it will delete everything and clear the initial download setup. Anyone know if this is true?

Hi,

After my experiences after the installation I would recommend you perform the following checks before the installer leaves

1) In a multiroom install check the Mysky1 still receives TV3, Sky Movies 1, Sky Movies Great, Sky Sports 1, Sky Sports 2.
(Channel not available will indicate the wrong skycard is being used.)
2) Check Mysky 1 can still record and playback a programme. (let it record for a minute then try playaback)
(Recording interupted....Please wait indicates the card is not setup correctly)
3) Check the channel descriptors say TV3 HD, Sky MOvies HD etc as this indicates you are pointing to the correct mux.
(Descriptors that only say TV3, Sky Movies 1 etc indicates you are only getting SD feeds)
4) Check live pause works for channels other than TV1 or TV2. Also check record playback works.
(Message C029 Playback in unavailable indicates the card has not been completely activated. You will be able to watch but not record)

Hopefully a few checks before the Tech leaves will save aggravation later on.

Just raced home now to meet the installer, all up and running and HD channels look mint on the Panasonic 50PY800 and SD is a big improvement, didn't have time to run through everything - had to get back to work, but first impressions, I am very, very happy, multiroom up and running in the bedroom with MySky 1, but looks like were going to have to move the bed into the lounge ( the missus probably won't agree ) Ran through the list that F1guy mentioned above and all was sweet, installer said the biggest thing is if the card is not activated through the call from installer to Sky. Won't be out socialising much for a while I think.

This is a good list to go by.The sky guy set up the new hdi and moved the old my sky. But had cards set up wrong,no TV3 and sport 1 + 2 on old box and SD TV3 and Sport 1 + 2 on new HD box. Installer was convinced that it was right so i showed him TV3 on freeview HD. He was soon on the phone getting it put right.
