I have a house at the beach with no phone line but with Satellite Freeview and SKY. Until recently I have recorded programmes to watch later using an old VHS recorder. I do have a DVD player there too! I also have used an older laptop for recording stuff in Auckland and replaying it at the beach.
However we sometimes rent the place out and the tenants also want to be able to record and play things so the laptop is not an option there.
Now the VHS recorder has finally died and I have decided to replace it with a HD DVD Recorder. Ideally the recorder would have:
Integrated Freeview Tuner(s)..my Freeview Tuner is a manky Chinese import that needs dumping
USB input - to allow me to transfer recording easily from Home to beach
Ability to play DivX/Xvid, H264 etc for material downloaded from 'Net
DNLA would be nice although currently my TV there is an old CRT so it would not be required until I update the TV.
Happy for any suggestions on other features that I should consider
I have done a bit of Googling and so far can really only find the Panasonic DMR-XW380GZK but it would be nice to have some other options to consider
Price wise I'd be thinking of $700 or so but could go higher for the right unit.
Any suggestions welcome.
