Hi Bros & Sis,

Any highly recommendation for installation of projectors, screens and home theathre?
Good workmanship and value for money kind? :)

Going to move into my new house, but unsure if the area can be suitable for projections or not.
Its about 2.9m by 3.1m lounge. Hope to have all the cablings hidden if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers :)

don't know about installers - i got my house builder/sparky to install screen, cabling etc at the time of the build...

but the room you propose to use ain't huge - so you should check this out to ensure you have adequate throw distance / screen size....

cheers and good luck

Where in NZ are you based?

(Normally it's Auckland if anyone else has to ask Wink...)

To be brutally honest, I think you would be better off with a big plasma, say 60 inch rather than a projector.

As big of an advocate as I am for front projection, with your seating distance likely to be around 2.2 - 2.5m from the screen (by the time you take the seating position on a couch allowing 1/2 a metre or so), the most likely effect will be somewhat underwhelming. In my last house my distance between the two walls was about 3.9m, seating around 3.3 - 3.5m from the screen I have a 92 inch screen and that was just watchable without being too overbearing.

You would have to have 1080p, no question and even then, lcos (sxrd if its a Sony) or dlp based as they are less prone to visible pixels. At 2.2 - 2.5m from a screen, pixelation on a lcd projector would be problematic, lcos / sxrds are better but not immune (not to mention expensive) and with a DLP projector, thats a whole other can of rainbow coloured worms (google DLP rainbow effect).

Also a potential problem would be eye fatigue as a big image at that distance is a lot to absorb, and you may find following onscreen action quite tiresome when watching for extended viewing.

If you do want a projector come hell or highwater, consider not getting a screen, just use a flatwhite wall, that way you can zoom in/zoom out to a suitable size. If you settle on one that you are comfortable with, then by all means, see if you can get a screen to fit the size. My best guess on size would be around 75 - 84 inch, kinda small for front projection.

Good luck whatever you decide

The distance is kind of too near for a 60inch plasma as the light comes directly to your eyes (the current area is quite dark). However the projection screen should be more soothing to the eye...

but like what some mentioned..it looks like its really small for a decent size projection...
i may have to install it in the main living area which is kind of longer, but very much brighter area for projection....sigh...

Its do'able. You just have to select a smaller screen size I.e. 80", and a projector with a high fill rate such as D-ILA.
