Will an iPod/iPad sync media directly with iTunes server on NAS or do you still need to go through iTunes on a pc or Mac?

I think the itunes server just serves the library to any itunes install on the network,
so you'd still need itunes to actually sync the device (or banshee if you are on linux)

Yep, I think it is just a remote storage location for iTunes.

'Once on there though, you can play music from your itunes library using the Remote App through to your Home Theatre if you have an Airport Express or AppleTV.

Not long ago setup a NAS, copied the mymusic folder to the NAS, turned on the itunes server support and itunes on any device that's connected to the network can access it, and sync with it.

Hi Greg, when you say any device do you mean for example that you can sync direct between NAS and your iPhone/Pad/Pod or od you still need a PC or MAc with itunes installed to manage the sync?

You will always require iTunes on either PC or Mac to sync to it via cable or WiFi (iOS 5+).

You still need a computer running itunes, you just need to tell itunes to look for a server, as your iwhatever has a USB connection on it where a NAS just has a ethernet

From what i've seen you need software on both your PC and android in order to create the link to the NAS box
