anybody used these guys before? any experiences to relate?

they have a pretty good price on some home theatre equipment I am considering

$638 when most bricks and mortar retailers have it at well over $700 (JB HiFi have it at $749 for example, when they are normaly very competitive)

ETA: ah, I see it is the last one they have in stock. Still, should be brand new in a box, not a floor model since they don't have a store, right?

I think it is an old model.

JB HiFi don't have any left.
They are doing the next model up (BDVE980W) today only - $763.30

yeah, the main difference between the two models that I can see is that the rear speakers in the 980 are wireless but not in the 880. nice to have I guess, but nothing that makes me want to spend an extra $100.

although JBHiFi quite often do some good deals of the sticker price, so if I could get that model for under $700 I might be keen.

although this lower spec model is priced pretty well

Well in relation to your question as to whether or not had any dealings with them I queried a out of stock item as to what timeframe I would be looking at for delivery on it if I ws to order got a reply a day later saying 2 - 3 weeks.

It's now 5 or 6 weeks now and although I now get semi regular emails detailing the difficulties they're having with the suppliers (these emails only started coming once I enquired at the 3 week mark as to what was happening) I feel like they may have just plucked the ETA out of the air. I do not want to get a refund as I know the price was good and I doubt I will get it anywhere else for close to that price (according to pricespy at the time anyway) I just wish I had not ordered it at all and would not necessarily recommend them.

In saying that though they do seem to have some good feedback on the pricespy website it may just be that I made a bad choice in ordering a out of stock item. If your item is in stock maybe flick them a email to confirm it then go from there.

Have brought a couple of things off them. Did have the same issues with lack of info on an out of stock item when it was delayed beyond the ETA but then I have been spoiled by Ascent who have brilliant customer service. They do have some good pricing and certainly a lot better then some at customer service.

A quick glimpse at their home theatre range shows that they have next to nothing 'in stock'... and probably just order off their supplier, rather than hold stock...

Even the name of the site fills me with trepidation.

Whoever you use, pay by credit card. You hear too many stories of people buying from computer companies because they were the cheapest, and who pay by internet banking, and the company goes out of business, and they lose their money. Fair Go had a story recently on one. I have little sympathy for people who lose their money that way, when they could have paid by credit card, which gives them protection.

I have not read up on my credit card companies policies around this but I don't think you willingly usuing your credit card to buy something is quite the same as you having your card used fraudulently so you would not be covered.

Many companies won't charge you any more if you pay by credit card, and I think it is good practice for companies not to charge more, as it is a cost of doing business, and cc fees are proportional to the turnover. But for those that do, think of the fee as a form of insurance policy. $20 fee on a $1000 purchase to protect you is more than worth it in my opinion, especially in these uncertain times when businesses are going into liquidation all the time.
