Why? Good price for a 55" though

No worries, I will just point the rabbit ears towards the US and away I go.

If you're going to pick up US TV with rabbit ears, you'll probably need to at least put them on the roof ;-)

lots of people don't use the tuner on the TV at all.

They might be using it for Sky, or even just as a HTPC monitor, or just for PS3, DVD player etc

$1998 on web, I'm sure you could negotiate better. You get a NZ warranty and 3D too...
There must be others. That was just a quick look.

Actually, if it had a few more inputs (ie at least 2 component inputs, rather than one etc, and at least 3 AV inputs) and could deal with PAL signals as well as NTSC I might be tempted - despite the lack of an NZ tuner. For a 55" LED TV this doesn't look too bad - Just add a TIVO or similar to compensate for the lack of an NZ tuner and you would be away laughing.

The killer is firstly lack of PAL support, and secondly a paucity of non-HDMI inputs. Other than that, it wouldn't be a bad deal.

Yeah if you're going to make use of live pause etc then typically you would want to use TIVO as your live TV viewing device as well. Hence inclusion of an internal tuner is not that important. Sky is the other case in point, in which case mostly none of the major players offer a DVB-S tuner in their TV's anyway, despite this being an option overseas....

Recertified products have a comprehensive warranty.
All 6 months of it!

What sort of rights do you have under the CGA for recertified products?
It technically isn't 2nd hand.

Recertified 55" LED for the same price of a brand new 60" LG Plasma.
One doesn't have a NZ compatible tuner, one does.
One may / may not have no backup support, one will.
All small things really.
Because, to me, if you can't view the TV with your choice of source material prior to purchasing it, then how will you even know if it will suit you?
