Hi There.

My Panasonic plasma TH50PZ850 is only 34 months old, bought it from Bond and Bond. Also got the extended warranty with it.

I notice the bottom right corner of the screen has a burn in image, very faint, but definitely there. In fact the lower 15cm portion of the screen has faint burn in image. I have tried adjust the picture - saturation, contrast, brightness, eco, cinema setting etc, it is still there. But after watching the TV for about an hour, it would disappear - or fainter. But, the burn in image would return the next day.

My question are (1) this is not normal right? (2) it should be under warranty right? (3) would Bond and Bond say No if I make a claim?

please help.

Any idea what caused the burn in image?
Is it a logo? Graphics from a video game? Has the TV ever been calibrated?

Hi There

The burn in image is actually the TV1 breakfast time display on the bottom right corner, and the wording which roll across the bottom portion of the TV. I watch the breakfast for an hour in the morning before I leave for work.

I thought panasonic plasma TV has wobble, pixel shift feature which would stop image burn in from happening.

This is still something Plasma TV's suffer from no matter how good the technology is to prevent it.

I would be surprised if you get a burnt image from just an hour a day, especially assuming the TV gets turned off or used for other broadcasts at other times. I'm no expert but understood that in modern plasma's to get a burnt image it would need to show the exact same image for literally days on end. I have not heard of Plasma burn for years.

Go back to the shop, it could be a fault, especially if the TV has technology (i.e. screen saver function) to prevent burn-in. Sadly I can see them quickly blaming the user for leaving the TV on.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Its not burn in, its image retention. IR is temporary as you have discovered, burn-in is permanent.

Your habit of turning the TV off in the morning after watching the static banner is why you are seeing IR persist. The area affected needs to be cleared by being stimulated. When you simply turn off the TV, that area tends to 'bake' and it becomes more difficult to remove it.
The Pixel Orbitor isn't found on the older NZ models, but it isn't a complete solution anyway. It tends to move the pixels only a very small distance, so rather than sharply defined IR, you get a slightly more smudgey IR.

In the short-term, you can run some snow from an untuned analog channel for a few hours just to get back to square one, but my longterm advice would be to set the timer on the TV for 20 minutes and change the channel just before you leave for the day. This will combat the IR so that by the time the TV turns itself off, the problem will have (mostly) cleared.

Strange I have a Panasonic th-50px60u from July of 2006. I've used it for pretty much almost 6 yrs ..well as a computer monitor and watch some tv on it. I couldn't count the times or hours I have had it sitting at my desktop and at times left it on by mistake for 4 to 6 to 8 hrs and never had an issue. The icons are there when I turn the tv off or change the screen image....but after watching a show they go away in virtually no time at all.

But perhaps they've changed something in how they make em since 2006 and your make/model/year?

I can't say if the OP's image is burn in or IR. What I can say is that burn in is a reality - I have it! Its not persistent IR, its burn in! How do I know? Its been there two months and it aint going away. it ain't dimming it just sits there being an image that ought not be there. Bit like a mother-in-law who has out stayed her welcome.

I can't say if the OP's image is burn in or IR.

The fact the OP said it goes away after an hour of watching TV means it is IR, and not burn in.

I get IR from maybe 10 or 15 minutes of having the MySky on pause when watching football or rugby, and that's noticeable due to the large amounts of green turf. (goes away after a few minutes of the screen changing)

Its been there two months and it aint going away.

Yes, burn in is a reality, how long did you have your image on the screen for to get the burn in? and what is the image / how big?
