Hi everyone,

I just bought a new Laptop (HP DV6-6C38TX, Windows 7, 64bit) and would like to get your recommendations for a USB DVB-T and DVB-S tuner (my older Laptop DV5-1009tx had a built in DVB-T Tuner).

I see there are quite a few DVB-T USB tuners on TradeMe at various pricing, but I would like to use it with MediaPortal.  I used MediaPortal a couple of years ago and found it was better than Windows Media Center.

I would also like to know of a good remote too, that would work not only with the tuner (MediaPortal or Windows Media Center), but with Cyberlink PowerDVD (Blu-Ray).

I know you can get top range tuners that get installed into Desktop computers, but because I use a Laptop, I require USB devices.

Regarding DVB-S, I have used one of these before but found that the software it came with was incredibly buggy, so any other recommendations would be great.

Thanks for your time!

I have heard good things about the Hauppauge Nova-S USB, as a USB satellite tuner, although I haven't tried one myself. Say it in PB Wellington for (from memory) circa $140 when I was in there just before Christmas.

Most generic DVB-T USB sticks should just work in MP. Satellite tuners usually come in a box format because more circuitry is required.

The TBS USB models (Q-BOX series) are excellent satellite tuners in my opinion. Well supported too.

TeVii also make quite a range of USB tuners, some of which are available in NZ.

As for a remote: I would go with a MC remote with USB eHome IR receiver. Supported in MP and should hopefully work in PDVD too (don't take my word for that).
