Hi all,
I've been running freeview DVB-T via my Mediaportal 1.1.1.0 setup for some time. Normally its fairly solid (other than the occasional restart/reboot/reenergise) but tonight out of the blue I started getting stuttering and video glitches watching live TV on all channels (previously recorded TV is fine). My normal TV has a freeview tuner and was not exhibiting any of the same behaviour.
Looking in TVServer Configuration and using the manual control section, I can see that most channels are reporting around the 40% quality mark and actually its a bit jumpy (although I've never looked at this when its been working - doh). When I oberserved this, the "strength" indicator was at full. Anyway, I played around with swapping cables from the telly to the media portal but no change - TV kept working fine, media portal kept having problems.
Recently (as in 6 months ago) we had a new aerial installed and the installer told me that we were getting the uber signal and showed me some nifty figures (which meant nothing to me) on his flash digital TV meter thing.
The only thing that is a bit different tonight is that the weather is BAD. It’s really windy and raining quite a bit - does this affect DVB-T signals? I must admit that if it were weather related I would have expected to have seen a problem before - Wellington is not exactly known for its good weather.
Could it be that the tuner in the PC is just less sensitive than the one in my TV? Could it be that the mediaportal software is just not as good at dealing with lower quality signals than my TV?
I've been meaning to upgrade Mediaportal for some time but have learnt not to touch it unless absolutely necessary.
Anyway, would be interested in thoughts.
Regards,
