Sometimes it helps to search...

Although it looks like it might be a driver issue in your case? It is looking for "PSIMemoryShare.dll".
Also h
ave you downloaded the fix pack?

Thanks Nety, I did search; for "exception" and "exit code 5" Just not for "error".

and yep, i'm using the patch.

Thanks for the link, I'll have another go tonight.

This EPG stuff is pretty confusing for non techies, I feel like I need a "for dummies" guide.

Looks like your install didn't work properly.

I would uninstall and re-install.

Unfortunately the software has a large number of options because it deals with several different types of hardware and 9 or 10 different EPG protocols.

Saying that you should be able to ignore most of the options if you use one of the preset tasks for setting up your parameters. Also the ReadMe has a step by step guide for getting started.

Thanks guys, It seems it was the firewall. Once I got rid of that, worked out which transmitters I should be dealing with and switched on the settings to deliver the data directly to Windows media Center -bingo fully filled EPG for freeview.

Not sure about the other plugins and big screen epg i've seen people talking about. What purpose do these have if you can have it populate the WMC epg directly?

Also one other gotcha was that initially the setup seemed to require me to open the spg collector and epg center as administrator so I moved the ini files to the user directory instead of Program Files and that seemed to work so now it will work as a scheduled task.

Thanks again, great tool.

That's odd with the firewall. I can't think why that would affect it.

You don't need BSEPG if you import directly.

Looking at the log you posted above the parameters were in the ProgramData directory and you were running as administrator. That's the default directory on Win7 and should be ok. You shouldn't put the parameters in the ProgramFiles directory as EPG Collector won't have write access.

The firewall idea was in the thread that Nety linked to. I need to add an exception in windows firewall for my tuner card for this to work with the firewall on.

That thread was about the HDHomerun tuner. That is a networked tuner so EPG Collector needs access through the network to get to it.

Your tuners are in the same machine as the one running EPG Collector so no network access needed so the firewall is not relevant.

It must have been something else that got it working.

Thanks, yeah It seems fine now. Go figure.

Only now I'm getting lots of periods/dots in the guide instead of the programming. I searched and fond some info about using some alpha program to erase my WMC settings that might be conflicting but it sounded a bit scary to me.

I went through and disabled the Inband on all the channels. TV1 and 2 seem ok but the rest.... No dice.

Have you set the source for the epg listing? Same screen where you disabled the inband listing. Note they are listed as the TV channel name with -EPG Collector on the end.
Personally I did have to reset media centre before I could use the EPG collector listings but it may not be necessary for you. Just see if you have the channels listed with EPG collector appended.

I'll need to check when I get home, but I'm pretty sure all the channels are listed as epg collector.

How did you do the reset?

Thanks heaps for the help.

When I first got home and checked, the channel names of the channels with the dots were indeed incorrect. I restored defaults and then  I re-ran epgCollector and they were back to the correct labeling. Still just the dots tho... can you point me to the info on resetting WMC, or have any other suggestions?

I want to be able to record some of the Olympics off prime...

Thanks for all your help. Much appreciated.

just updated to collector v4 too.

Can anyone help?

To disable the in-band guide which I believe is causing the dots try the following registry setting

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\GLID

DisableInband DWORD to 1.

If it doesn't exist (GLID branch or DisableInband) create it.

Note that this registry key is different from the one I previously quoted. I now believe that was incorrect and did not stop the in-band guide being collected by WMC whenever you viewed a channel on a frequency that contained EIT EPG data. From my recent testing this key does stop it.

Also on the Output tab I would tick the last General option - Create data for channels with the same name etc etc.

Finally Works. Woohoo!

Before I saw your answer I downloaded BigScreen EPG and did the WMC reset which seemed to trash the tuner in WMC causing it to fail to find any channels. I then followed the following instructions to rebuild wmc from a corrupted state:

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=84&topicid=58607&page_no=1#307767

The Short Way
1) Quit Media Center
2) Open Task Scheduler -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Media Centre.
3) Manually run the MCERecoveryTask
Or
2) Open an elevated command prompt
3) run "mcupdate -MediaCenterRecoveryTask"

Which seemed to bring WMC tuner back to life.

followed by the Registry tweak you suggested.
I had to Make the Entry:
1:right click service > New > DWORD (32bit)
2: Rename it to GILD
3: Right click to Modify and change the "Value Data" to 1, i left it as hexadecimal.

Restart everything, re run my EPG collector  and now it's golden!

Thanks!

Whenever I want to 'reset' MC I just delete the database and it's backup directory in the ProgramData - ehome directory and go thru the MC setup again.

Maybe not the right way to go if you have a lot of programs set up to record but it guarantees a clean start.
