Hi guys, I picked up a blank cassette at our local Save Mart today. I recorded some music onto it from my computer's line out. I'm amazed, the quality's better then what people have made Cassette out to be. My question, I want to start making my own tape compilations (Mixtapes), and to do that, I obviously need more then one audio tape to do so.

Does anyone know of somewhere in the Auckland area, that stocks Blank audio tapes? Even better if it's located anywhere in NZ, and they offer online shipping. The warehouse offers $5 for a pack of five. That would do me fine the price seems reasonable, however the time on that particular tape is only 60 minutes (30 minutes on each side), and that is too short for me. I'm looking for something 90 minutes minimum.

Does anyone know of such a retailer?

The longer the tape the thinner it is which equals lower quality.

I didn't realize that you could still but that "old" stuff.

Why on earth would you want to make an audio cassette compilation?

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

the quality might be better than you expected but cassettes are still probably the worst format of audio delivery there is.

I am pretty sure I have seen them at the Warehouse recently, I recall being amazed that they were still being sold. I also note that they are listed on the Dick Smith website.

However, as scuwp said..... WHY?

Wooo - a blast from the past - I remember the days...
TDK, BASF, Sony - all made decent tapes. 'Normal', Chrome, and later ferrichrome.

A Nakamichi deck was a thing much to be lusted after.

Amplifiers even had 'loudness' buttons!

Ahhhh - nostalgia!

Ah.. nostalgia. Cassette formulations for long life non-stretching and fidelity were getting really good just before CD came out and got going. Sony released a particularly good one IIRC, it was a high quality 'metal' tape which recorded at a normal bias. This may have been part of the 'gamma' series.

This one on trademe is not that forumulation IIRC it was the low end of that same series (think model year) which may have been the last one:

Cassettes made on a good deck, with a good source can still sound fantastic - better than compressed digital doo-doo !

Warehouse were selling Teac branded tapes (HDX chromes) which were OK but not a patch on classic TDK/Maxell etc.

Good stuff occasionally appears on Tardme or verseas auction sites.

A couple of years ago some tape enthusiasts started a new tape company, using NOS stock loaded into new shells.

By all accounts the product is very good.
