I've developed a mobile app (mostly to learn Android) that displays TV listings for Freeview channels.

The data is derived from online sources although I've been hosting my own SQLite version of the dataset on my own server. I've found the app to be pretty useful for keeping up to date with what's on for the nights that I do want to sit down and watch something.

Perhaps other people would find it useful too although I'm currently a bit reluctant to release it to the Google Play Store as I've heard some rumblings in the past around the legality (copyright wise) of EPGs. I have no intention to charge for it or derive any advertising revenue from it. I'm keen to hear if anyone has any info on the current situation.

Rather than hosting the data (in any form) you'd probably be better to screen scrap on the fly.

I know Sky particularly takes a dim view of anyone distributing their EPG (we can argue the stupidity of that until we're blue in the face, but that's how they see it). They have posted cease and desist letters to sites and software developers who were accessing sky data.

TVNZ has done it in the past as well.. Perhaps if you approached them and got agreement as to the app, and how the data is used, and how it is stored, they might let you use it.
