This drives me nuts. I have Windows 7 running media centre. Any programs I record which have a Dolby digitalaudio stream - when Iplayback, Media Centre always defaults to the Dolbyaudio stream. The trouble is that this stream is about 20% quienter than the non Dolby stream, so have to turn up TV.

I playing the audio back through TV only. HDMI connection from my video card direct to TV.

So is there anyway of changing media centre so that it plays nonDolby by default?

instead of turning up the tv you have a few options you can try:

1) switch to the other audio stream during playback of the recording
2) tweak your settings/tv/audio menu for "auto volume" (disables dolby output)
3) tweak your settings/tv/audio menu for "secondary audio (SAP)"
4) install and tweak an external dolby codec to and configure a 20% volume boost there
5) if you were using an AMP (which you're not) you could have configured volume normalisation there. maybe your TV supports it?

Re;

1)      Already use, that, but it’s so annoying to have to do that every time you play a recorded programme

2)      Tried the auto volume after reading that elsewhere – makes no difference for me, Dolby still selected by default

3)      Tried the SAP – ditto point 2)

4)      Interesting – how does one go about that? Any recommendations?

5)      Can do that in TV, but the pain is that some channels don’t have Dolby (Prime) so then you have the opposite problem.

for point (4) you could try dropping in something like the shark codec pack and playing with the audio settings.

i dont normally recommend codec packs, but it might actually be a good thing for the problem you're facing... http://shark007.net/index.html
