just saw these at DSE and the price is pretty sharp

can anyone help me out with the specs as I am a bit of a noob

how do they compare?

They actually look quite good for the price. All models are high definition. SRS sound and HDMI inputs. Check out the NZ Uniden website

can someone explain contrast ratio and response rate to me - what number should I be looking for?

Simply put, the higher the contrast ratio the better, and the lower the response time the better. Ideally you want a contrast ratio higher then 1000:1 (for example the top spec Sonys have 10,000:1 contrast ratio) to give good blacks. Response times vary an awful lot, but 8ms or lower is ideal to avoid motion blur.

We got two dozen 27s and 32s on order
Got the 27s today and they are reasonably decent tvs

I went into DSE and had a look at one

asked them to put a DVD on so I could see what pic quality was like, dude goes sorry we dont have any dvds to play - he eventually managed to rustle up an old friends DVD so all I could watch on it was a grainy 1990 something episode

Dont know how they expect to sell any TVS
