Apologies if this has been covered before (I can't believe I'm the first person to experience this problem) -
A couple of weeks ago I was setting up recordings before going on holiday for two weeks, mostly it was just setting up series links, but I also wanted to set up to record the AllBlacks vs Wales rugby game. When I went to the planner it stopped before the date of the rugby game so I couldn't use that to set it up. I checked the user manual and found the manual recording option so tried to use that, but when I went to set it up there was no option to enter a date, just time and day, so you can only set up manual recordings up to 7 days in advance.
I phoned the help(less) line (why do I put myself through this torments) and after the usual pass the phone around several different people and explaining the problem over and over again eventually they said they would get someone to call me back within the next half an hour. Needless to say I'm still waiting....!
I got round the problem by setting up a manual recording for the time I wanted 2 weeks early and then choosing the repeat option so it recorded the same time and channel every week while I was away - but there must surely be a better way - as I pointed out to one of the Sky representatives my video recorder allowed me to set up recordings for up to a year in advance so two weeks shouldn't be that much of a challenge for MySky.... should it?
Any thoughts, comments or more obvious/better solutions?

I have found similar issues with the Guide in that Program Listings are only available for about 6 days ahead on some channels (such as TV1 or TV2).  Other Sky channels seem to be available several days further ahead but not so much as 2 weeks I don't think.

I would say that you have hit on the only way to accomplish what you are trying to do and I agree that this is a significant limitation of the existing software.

Maybe Sky will address this in a future update?

I don't suppose series link is available for that? If it were, you still would have to ask yourself if you trust it.

Yes, that is another good idea to add to our wishlist. Make sure you don't run out of disk while you're away, or turn on auto disk management.

You could use your vcr, and its IR blaster to change the channel on the old decoder you kept as a second? Even it that's possible, it's not likely to be better than what you have already done.
