Here’s a link to my home theater system.  I use a HP front projector for a 11’-3’ picture on a painted wall in my basement.  I love it!

The cost for front projectors has come down and you will be seeing more people with the "big screen" in their homes.

The lamp lasted about 2800 hours and cost $300 US to replace, so figure about $0.10 per hour (US) for maintance costs.

Why the HP and the InFocus, save playing round with inputs? Also the native LCD res's look a bit low, I imagine you get a bit of screendoor effect?

All in all a very nice setup though I must say, especially the chair.
What did you have to bribe the wife with to get the room painted to suit your projection requirements?! Laughing

The screen door can’t be seen from the back chairs which are 14’ from the screen.  The front two chairs are about 7’ from the screen and you can see the screen door effect if there is a white area on the screen.

The darker paint really helped the picture look brighter.  I’m throwing a bigger picture than recommended for my projector.  If the room was dual use, I don’t think we would have used the dark paint.

I spent about $2,400US for the HP ep7120 Digital Projector which was about the same cost as a 42” plasma when I bought it in Nov. 2004.  My projector overheated, so I added a computer fan at the end of the duct and have not had any more problems.  My friend bought the same projector last year (even after my fan problems) for about $1,200 and his projector also overheated.  He send it back to HP and they replaced the fan and installed a vented front plate.  The projector has been discontinued from HP, but I really like the picture quality and would buy it again.
