If you watch a programme you are recording, the recorded version often does not playback more than once. Anyone else found this?

Is it a PPV program? They may play only once, or expire at a certain time. I haven't noticed, but I haven't done any PPV, and normally only watch a program once anyway, then delete.

No these aren't PPVs just standard. My kids like cartoons like the Little Einsteins so we record the new episodes for repeated playback. If you watch the long awaited episode whilst the recording is in progress the recorded version often fails to play back either the first or second time. It remains in the planner but the select or play button becomes disabled. It might be a file corruption or I guess it could be the client fritzing out and disabling rights. I also tried it with the news and it does the same thing, but only about 50% of the time. Me, I'm thinking Bug.

Certainly sounds like a bug. Did you book it ahead of time, or start watching it and then decide to keep it?

I have frequently viewed the start of a program to verify the episode, eg "have I seen this episode of MythBusters before", then gone back and watched it later. But I rarely if ever watch the whole thing more than once, and don't usually watch while recording. If I get home before the news is finished recording, sometimes I start watching it while it is recording, but I don't save it to watch again. I always book them ahead of time. If that is what you did with the news, I could try it and see.

Booked ahead of time, then watched during recording. The bizarre thing is they sometimes play back perfectly the first time then the next time the play option becomes unavailable. We've started not watching programmes we want to store when they are recording to be safe.

CT: Booked ahead of time, then watched during recording.

Do you select the program from the Planner or the Guide to watch it? Or key in the channel number? I want to do it as much like you do to see if it happens for me.

Channel button or planner normally... our TV spends time on 041 these days, dreadful waste of a NAD home theatre...

I wonder if it happens when you key in the channel number? I never do that if I have booked the program - I always use the planner. Not cuz I think it's better, just that it's easier for me. But still, I can imagine that recording off a booking and "watching it live" (which also records it, doesn't it, for Live Pause etc) could get it confused.

The "live pause" confusion sounds likely - sloppy programming tho.

Very true! But we're stuck with it for now, so might as well make the most of it. Might pay to keep track and see if that's the key.

I have had this problem as well,  I think it can happen like this:

  • If you are watching a program you are recording
  • You pause
  • The program finishes
This then seems to leave an entry in the guide that is unusable.

Cheers
