Hello folks...

Imagine you have two programs set to record tonight, same channel. First program is 730pm - 830pm, second program is 830pm - 930pm.

Live TV is on the same channel. At around 735pm you come to the lounge and pause Live TV. Go get a drink, some food and then back in front of the TV at around 750pm. So you are about 15 minutes behind the program, still on Live TV, not watching the recording (although technically it is).

At 825pm, Media Center briefly flashes the next program name and starts recording. But... instead of continuing the live TV as it was (15 minutes behind) it just jumps to the current time.

You can rewind to the point where you were watching but why does Media Center decide it's a good idea to jump back to live feed instead of keep playing 15 minutes behind?

I can see it could be a bug - as in "playing 15 minutes behind a program that is being record is actually playing from the recording. End recording, goes back to live" but this sounds bad and noth what I expected...

Any ideas?

Yep same problem here, used to it now as my media centre has been like this from the word go. I have also had issues with non recorded TV (I have rewound or paused) and a scheduled recording starting and causing the paused show to jump the new recorded show. But on some occasions I am able to rewind about 30 minutes.

Another problem I run into a lot is changing from live TV to another channel that is being recorded and then having no sound on the recorded show. If I change to any other channel I get sound back but not on the recording channel. Have to stop the live broadcast and using the guide start the record show to fix this.

Hey freitasm

I think the problem is that you don't have enough tuners available. I use MediaPortal, but I think the theory is the same in that each stream will use a seperate tuner. For example the TV buffer will use one, the first recorning will use one, and it will want to use another when the second show starts to record 5 minutes prior to 8:30 (while the first is running 5 minutes over time).

Do the above make sense? In the above scenario you'd need 3 tuners.

Yes, it could be the case, as we have two tuners only. In this case it is "work as intended" instead of a bug :(

Tried MP once, years ago. IIRC the main problem was not being able to use the Microsoft Media Remote with MP. Is this solved now?

Yes, very much so. I use a bulk standard Microsoft RC6 remote control with MediaPortal. I've tried all difference remotes inluding various fancy Harmony ones, but the family still keep coming back to the good 'ol Microsoft remote.

Incidentally it took me about three attempts to move to MediaPortal from Media Centre. I was always lured back beause of its simplicity and look and feel. However what got me in the end was the advanced features of MediaPortal. Things like how it nativly handles my media library, photos, and advanced recording features of the TV Server.

Seriously - give it a go!
