According to the Synology website you can connect a compatible USB TV DVB-T tuner and record directly onto the NAS. (I'm looking at purchasing the DS213).  In effect using your NAS as a PVR.

Has anyone tried to use a compatible USB TV tuner (DVB-T) with a Synology NAS and the Video Station package?

What kind of issues did you have?

Or easier to use a separate PVR receiver?

The most important thing to consider is whether it supports H.264 or not.

I would also imagine you'll have no EPG which will make the whole setup rather limiting,

In regards to the EPG, most NAS's are able to have "packages" to be installed.

How easy would it to be to implement this for EPG collector?

One item comes to mind that it would need to be able to run on Linux.

Or have EPG collector as a EPG source for DVBLink, Media Server such as PLEX channel or a Raspberry Pi.

A Plex channel you might say, DBVlogic have developed a DVBLink plugin for PLEX.

Tried it on my 213+ with one of the supported sticks but couldn't get it to work. Gave up and went back to lounge to watch telly.

PVR software is pretty intricate and to get a good user experience I think it needs to be pretty mature. I don't think the NAS manufacturer is ever going to be that focused on refining their PVR software. probably more just a sales gimmick.

EPG Collector runs on Windows .Net platform, there will be no package in the world to get that running on a Synology NAS. You might be able to create a .xml file that the video software imports on a scheduled basis, but it will still need to run on a PC, which means at least one other USB receiver in that PC for the EPG.

I tried the HDHomeRun DSM package but it doesn't work in NZ. The HDHomerun works just fine on Windows and Mac here in New Zealand. Just not on the Synology NAS
