In the lounge the HTPC runs XBMC nicely and a Logitech 885 remote switches between that and the Sky STB perfectly. I've been playing with XBMCRemote on my Nexus One and Asus TF101 and its set me thinking on how to handle things in our kitchen.
We currently have an older iPod touch on a Logitech dock either streaming music from the server (using ServeToMe) or radio stations via TuneIn radio, but its too old for an iOS update to install Spotify.
What I want is something simple to include Spotify, or maybe just rely on Spotify and TuneIn radio, ignoring the option to stream the server's music altogether. I could buy a newer iPod but I have plenty of other hardware available to find a solution without buying more.
I don't really want a screen, mouse and keyboard in the kitchen (although I have all three readily available) and have always wanted my installs to be as stealthy as possible. A nice dock for the TF101 would be great but I can find nothing other than the keyboard and I may as well use a laptop in that case.
Anyway, my thoughts have swung from just installing XBMC on the server and plugging a set of speakers into that, but the XBMCRemote control of Spotify isn't all that intuitive and performance is patchy at best.
I've thought about just using the N1 on a dock with audio out (which I also have) to the speakers but I've had trouble (or don't understand) the docks bluetooth capabilities. I thought once the phone was synced I could remove it from the dock to change the music and it would continue playing but it ends the connection when I remove it. Have I misunderstood what it can do ?
I also have a RaspberryPi sitting around doing little, with RaspBMC on it. But as with the server, it seems a little overkill !
So given what I have available does anyone have any suggestions ?
