Standalone setup based on vlc player (no more codec BS to worry about), works on Android & Windows plus loads more goodies. No point typing out what's on the video. Watch here:

Live TV still lacking but this is something the devs want to include down the road. Core will be free but some plugins will cost, as per current mediabrowser 2 setup.

Looks like a decent alternative to XBMC and WMC (minus the live TV) anyway

first impressions

- Interface should be more consistent between devices, it shouldnt matter what you're running it one, if you connected it to a tv, it should look the same (browser and windows phone sure can be different but as long as they do still have a similar look).
- what clients support playback? didnt look as if windows phone does, but no clue
- what addons will be available? this is where xbmc really shines (hulu, iplayer and free cable are awesome)
- how many developers? (I thought there was only 1 dev for mediabrowser, if this is the case, ill pass, no way 1 can a single developer keep up with xbmc devs)

is it needed?
no. xbmc is the king, it runs on so many platforms, it is completely free, has loads of addons, has quick updates, is loved by the community.

if it becomes available on ouya, ill download and try it, but im 100% confident I won't be switching from xbmc to this.

It is very similar but will be a slicker interface if you're willing to put the time and a little money into making it so. Here is a good thread about it

Good points. Time will tell how good it is. Pretty sure there are multiple devs on it. I've always been a MB fan so will give it a thrashing when it comes out and make the comparison then. I know they want to include netflix, hulu, etc too

i used mediabrowser when I was running WMC, and honestly wasnt that much of a fan, thought it was the best out there for WMC, but no where near as good as the options available in mediaportal, xbmc, plex.

Firstly, they stole the Bourne soundtrack music. I wonder how long it takes for the video to be pulled if they haven't secured rights to use it... lol?

Speaking of video, I fear for this project already. The frame rates on the youtube video appear to have massive amounts of judder and lag. If they can't encode the demo video correctly, how are we expected to trust the actual application to run various different files with different frame rates?

That being said, it's good to have another contender in the media centre space. If it turns out to be worthy, that can only be a good thing.

I am yet to see anything slicker than an Aeon based Plex system. The thread is quite long but I'll browse and take a look. =D

and they should drop the "3". just call it mediabrowser.

a version number should not be in an application title.

xbmc frodo/12, the app is still called "xbmc", the logo is "xbmc".
