Hi guys, I've been looking at getting a PlayTV for my PS3 as the Antenna input on my LCD is totaled, and has broken off.

I've been reading, and they say that a PlayTV enables you to view your PS3's DTV tuner content, wherever you are in the world, and that looks appealing to me.

However, as far as I know the PlayTV doesn't do analog TV, nor does it have AV inputs. I would like to connect the PlayTV to my DM500, but in order to do that I need to connect it through my DVD Recorder as that is the only device that has an RF Out, however I need to convert it to Digital first.

Are their any devices, that will convert that signal to digital, or isn't such a device affordable as of yet?

Thanks

Hi,

Perhaps something like a HD-based DVD recorder?

Panasonic DMR-XW390 on PriceSpy

The Operating Manual is available online, so have a read and see if it'll do what you want.

Don't buy the XW-390... the replacement Panasonic BluRay model should be out in NZ soon, and the RRP will be around $699.
The top of the line 2013 Pana unit is already out, but it costs a cool $1000.

Err I am a little confused why you need to get the signal from the DVD recorder for the playTV?, why not just use a splitter?

Also, is your DVD recorder analog?, if it is then is is going to become a paperweight by December ( at the latest) so you are going to have to replace it anyway....

I wasn't recommending as such, just suggesting a technology based on a quick google search.

Don't own one, never used one.

I *DO* have a HD-based freeview PVR which does a nice job of recording TV; that's about as digital as I get in that space.  (Well, technically, I guess the kids XBox also counts, as it's HDMI connected...)

by DM500, are you meaning dreambox?
Is that receiving terrestrial or satellite?

effectively, there is no way of converting RF output to DVB-T for the playTV to use (not without costly equipment)

You would always need your PS3 on to access the streams vis the internet (no sure what sort of power save the PS3 has)

If are are using DVB-T to the DM500 - does it have a loop out for the antenna?

I'm also confused. Why doyou  want to convert to Digital RF (which isn't possible anyway unless you have a very large wallet)?
You should be connecting devices to the TV via HDMI or component.
Easisest solution is just fix the socket on the TV.
