Hi all,

looking to replace my 10+ year old Pioneer receiver with a Denon AVR-2313CI.
I have read a few site and user reviews which give it great recommendations.

Does anyone have one of these? How do you find it

Or if anyone with more Home Theatre experience than I can see something glaring wrong with this; please let me know

Thank you

p.s. this receiver is at the top end of what I can afford..

Nice receiver, the CI is the American code though... are you based in the US?

No, but I copied the code from a U.S. review site.

Should have been AVR2313BK

Value for money / ease of use / powerful sound = the win.
There's a lack of analogue plugs on the back, but we are going towards an HDMI only world at an alarmingly quick rate. The network connectivity is pretty cool, being able to use Airplay / DLNA / Spotify is mint - as is the remote app.
Yeah, go for it, certainly works well. Another competing amp might be the RXV673 from Yamaha.

Went into HN today to have a look at their selection... they recommended I check out the Marantz SR-5007 as well.

Came home and checked online - reviews for this receiver also seems great.

Decisions decisions ...

Onkyo TR-NX818 should be a consideration too. Don't underestimate the value that Audyssey XT32 brings.
I have the Integra DTR50.4 which is practially identical and it has been the best value for money AV component I have ever bought.
Runs as cool as a cucumber too.

$1899 is a jump up in price compared to what you can get the Denon for... you'd argue that you could 'almost' get an AVR3313 for that!
The SR5007 is a step up on the AVR2113, but the jump isn't massive - especially for the price. The Denon will come with a longer factory warranty too.

Onkyo TR-NX818 ticks all the boxes bar one - reliability
I am reading a lot of reviews about Onkyo and it's reliability issues over the last few years - and it seems that this model is not exempt.

Reliability has been without a doubt a significant problem for them over recent years but 2012 broke the mold. Its especially true for the mid-upper range models (of which the 818 is included). I've waited 10 year to upgrade from my last AVR and over that time I've witnessed the Onkyo issues (starting with the 876) and I wouldn't have felt comfortable taking a gamble with any of them.
It was fairly obvious that mid-way through last year, the 818 wasn't following the usual trend.

The thread on AVS is fairly massive to wade through, but there are plenty of posts like this which show a lot of one way traffic with people moving from respective Denon and Yamaha models to the 818. The feature-set for the money simply isn't matched elsewhere.

Onkyo can't fix their reputation as quickly as they have their hardware issues. You can cook eggs on the 2011 models, but last year's are barely tepid. Its not going to be recognised overnight and people who have been burned in the past (not meant as a pun) are going to be vocal about it for years to come.

All you can do as a potential buyer is read read read.

To add to that...
Read, read, read... then listen! You need to like the sound of the receiver with your speakers.
For instance, a mate finds his B&W 7 series combined with many Onkyo receivers to be a bit on the bright side. Others, will be perfectly happy. You need to listen to it first.
