Hi all - old house, concrete floor, little access to wiring, so a 5.1 system for our home theatre looks like a no go.  Anyone tried any of the soundbar systems now available?  Like the polk ones?  Thoughts?

Cheers,
AJ

I am not aware of the soundbars you can get in NZ.

But I do have a 4-5 yr old Yamaha YSP-4000 (from Canada, not sure if they can be bought here in NZ). I really enjoy it and have never felt like I was losing out. It does help that I have a 10" Kenwood Powered Sub running along with it. It may not be the best....but it does a good job.

Best bet is to go read some reviews.

Quite good for TV and some movies - and for the money, I don't see any issues with the performance compared to $700 home theatre units... But two floor standing speakers + sub + receiver will beat it. However, you'll pay more, have more cables and a larger learning curve.
Soundbars certainly have their place though.

No, I've read that 5 times, and still have absolutely no idea what you mean.  Can we get an "unhelpful" vote button in here, please?
