Would love some suggestions to Hi-fi stores/chains and online retailers in New Zealand.

Looking for things like home cinema recievers (Denon etc), good speakers etc.

Good quality, good service and GOOD prices are the important things I am looking for.

If you are in Auckland, check out Paul Money HiFi (recommended, I have bought a lot of gear from them) and AV World (Dominion Rd). Both companies have the quality gear, knowledgeable staff and reasonable prices for the standard of equipment they are selling.

Not exactly in my budget, but a good example:

These speakers cost about 1800 NZD here in Norway. Thats almost half price compared to NZ.

Another plug for AV World. Talk to them about your requirements. I'm sure they could do something for you. Just watch out for the full size Dalek guarding the shop. And last time I was there, the full size TARDIS wasn't yet in operation.

These speakers cost about 1800 NZD here in Norway. Thats almost half price compared to NZ.

I have the CM9 fronts CM1 rears and a CM Centre 2 and they only cost me $6500 all up at Harvey Norman where as AV World have just the CM9s costing more then that. I would guess that the price listed is full retail but that if you were to actually inquire you will will get a better price.

I have also found this at Sound Expression here in Wellington with a recent purchase of a Yamaha A-S2000 amp and Project Debut Carbon turntable which only cost $3500 which is the retail list for just the amp so the turntable was free (thats how I sold it to the wife anyways).

I've also heard this said of Paul Money that if you contact them with your requirements they will work something out with you.

B&W are still considered a 'supermarket store' brand in NZ along with their paired import Onkyo

You can get them the basic-mid stuff off floor at Harvey Norman stores, or order them from Noel Leeming group who have access to the suppliers as long as you are willing to lay down a down payment.
I did this for my B&W 602v2/CC6/302 via NL and paid on the spot as they were within a few dollars of other stores without the floor-model pricing bump they seem to get on other products :)

The specialist store like top Hi-Fi here in CHC will push you toward more the higher end stuff. But expect to pay an across-the-other-side-of-the-world shipping premium

The owner, Paul Halliwell, is a good guy and a straight shooter. I'm not a true audiophile but have bought a lot of HT and TV stuff from him over the years - even back when he was a shareholder in Stereo World before the others did the dirty on him (so I believe but not that he told me that). After he left, they folded and later he set up AVW.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Not sure about individual costs of each speaker sorry, I think it was $4500 for just the CM9 but it dropped further when I said I would like the whole package - the centre alone retails for $2500.

Bass wise they are pretty good, I have them about a foot from the wall. They also come with foam bungs for the bass ports if you need to drop the bass further. The real plus for these speakers is the midrange which is just sublime.

nice setup, i have cm8 and i found its not bassy enough, thinking to upgrade to cm9

In Auckland for me it's Paul Money or AV World for good quality gear and brands at reasonable prices. Don't take any notice of the sticker prices, knock 10 % off and you won't be far off. Good service and knowledgable people who don't pressure you. The Listening Post is also a good store for gear.

Paul money lost my custom when they went off on a rant about parallel imported stuff a while back.

Have been in to see av world a couple of times, but to be honest nothing new interests me that much. 4k passthru will possibly see me upgrading again once a display for it comes along, but all the inbuilt internet stuff is a waste to me, just like the smart tv stuff, and as I dont really ever get actual bluray media and never got the HD stuff to stream over HDMI from a computer more audio modes doesnt interest me either.
