Maybe a dumb question from a newbie. We have an Onkyo 414 AV receiver, a set of speakers, a LCD TV (no wifi), a DVD player, an iPhone, and an Android phone.

We want to be able to wirelessly play the MP3s stored on the Android phone, and have downloaded the Onkyo App on the phone. Now I need to connect the AV Receiver to the network. Do I just use an Ethernet cable to connect the receiver with the Router? How will my Android phone communicate with the receiver so that the latter could play music files in the former?

Yes, just connect the Router to the Receiver with a LAN cable.

I'm not sure how the Android app works, but I would have though it was only a remote control App. To play music off an Android or iPhone, I think you would have to connect them to the USB (unless you can make the android a DLNA server).

You should be able to stream from your phone using the onkyo app. Or that certainly was how it was demonstrated to me instore. Make sure you enable network control under settings on the Onkyo (off by default). The app should scan and find the receiver as long as they are on the same network.

Use a network cable, be sure to plug both ends in. You should try this prior to asking for help, but I understand if you were reluctant to experiment.

some updates on this.

Tried this again last night and it worked. Now I'm able to control the receiver via Android phone. I can even play mp3s off the phone. My wife's iphone can do the remote control as well but cannot her mp3s.

The best thing about it is I can control the receiver from the bedroom, garage, toilet ... I'm in heaven
