Any stores still selling Apple TV 2?
On PriceSpy it has Dick Smith selling them but they don't.

I know they occasionally come up on TradeMe etc but I was hoping for new.

Don't hold your breath; it was discontinued more than a year ago so it's unlikely that you'll find one (apart from private sales on eBay and the like).

I'd very much doubt it, the 2nd generation models are selling second hand on Trademe for more than the RRP - you wouldn't expect this if the 2nd gen was still for sale new

Did you want the 2nd gen so you could jailbreak it?

That's pretty much the only reason it still has value

Whoa $320?!? That's insane. I might have to sell mine and get a couple of Raspberry Pi's instead :)

Have you heard of this?

I'm using it on my 3rd gen ATV. I bought it recently specifically for this. It's pretty awesome. And obviously doesn't need a jailbreak to work.

Thanks for that, looks like exactly what I'm after, now get to keep the Apple TV 3 I got and take advantage of the 1080p.

+1 - it is excellent and very fast, much faster than running PLEXbmc on my ATV2 jailbroken.

The ATV3 has a LOT of jitter via the optical output unfortunately, so if you plug it into a high end DAC (ESSabre etc) there have been big issues with loud 'cracks' and 'clicks'. I won't be selling my JB'd ATV2 anytime soon.

I'm lucky enough to have picked up one of these from a GZ member for about $100 a little while ago. Although if you're only interested in Plex, you can use Plexconnect to do a DNS interception and use the Trailers app as a Plex client on an ATV3, sans Jailbreak.
