hi,
i'm currently building a new place for the family and me,and i'm looking for advise on how to do the following.

please assume i know nothing about this stuff when replying.

i will have a lcd tv,xbox 360,windows computer,ipod.freeview box

i want to be able to listen to music from the computer/ipod or the radio in the lounge, dining room and outdoors

i want to wantch tv/dvd's in the lounge, i'll probably cable for 7.1

i will have tv outlets to a few other areas which may or may not get used in the future.

i'd like the kids to be able to watch a dvd in the lounge whilst the radio is on in the kitchen dining.

i'm looking for an entry level set of equipment with an entry level budget.
i can add conduits that will allow for upgrades later but mwhat to where?

non of the above has been done as i'm still putting down the slab.i'm open to other suggestions if any of the above seems odd.

i've looked around the internet and i'm aware there are heaps of options but without the knowledge to know what you need i just get more confused.

thanks for your time,
any suggestions?

As you're still in the planning stage you're better off consulting a professional installer (where are you located ?) rather than soliciting random responses off the interwebs..

I'd talk to your sparky in the first instance, most of them will do cabling, if you have a good idea what you want it makes sense to get it all done at once.

Also try google, someone somewhere probably has a detailed "build" log. You could probably learn a lot from just reading that.

Go and see a specialist audio reseller, take your plans / a drawing of the home / a list of equipment you have... and go from there. It will be A LOT easier to do in person, than it will be on-line.

thanks for the replies,i'll have a read of those links

i have an electrician lined up who will also do the data/comms, and i've no doubt he can cable what i want, its the hardware side i'm struggling with amplifiers/multizone/speaker splitters/keypads/volume switch/impedance head hurt!
i'm on a limited budget but i will approach a specialist to get an idea of options and pricing though

i waqs hoping someone would have suggestions on possible routes/packages to investigate though, give me a few ideas of what to research, after all the more people you ask the more options you'll likely be given.

i'm in arrowtown by the way

cheers,martin
