Howdy Geeks,

I've been using a set of Audioengine A2's as my PC Speakers for the past year, and although they produce the most heavenly sound imaginable, I'm craving a bit of extra bass for my movies etc.

The obvious choice would be to pair them with an Audioengine S8 subwoofer, but from what I hear, they're not quite as good as they should be for the price.
I want something fairly compact with excellent sound and decent crossover controls for around the $400 mark.

I've looked at the Wharfedale Diamond SW150 but was concerned that because the RCA outputs are 'line-level' that this simply passes the complete signal through to the satellite units without being affected by the crossover setting. Also, I can only get second hand units for under $400 and I'm wary of getting something that has been thrashed and will sound terrible.

So if anyone could shed some light on whether the Wharfedale's RCA outputs are controlled by the crossover, or even steer me in the direction of a better product, that would be awesome!

I was contemplating the wharfedale SW150 for my HT setup - a step up from my current sony SA-WM200.

However, I decided, after much reading (but admittedly no listening) that SVS subs were v. good sound for the money*.

If you could stretch to $699, for something you'll listen to and enjoy for a long time to come, you could get the SB-1000 (tighter, more musical) or the PB-1000 (louder bass, deeper extension). http://www.rapalloav.co.nz/subwoofers-1/svs.html/

They've now got a local importer, and the prices - in contrast to the GST-added-to-online-purchase debate - seem *very* reasonable.

IMHO, spend a bit more now and minimse the risk of buyer's remorse / upgradeitis.

* No conflict of interest, and I have no affiliation or interest in rapallo or SVS... beyond saving up for an SB13-Ultra!

Mmm, the SVS looks like a nice sub, can someone confirm for me that if I connect my A2's up to the RCA outputs that they will be affected by the crossover setting?

EDIT: It appears that I didn't quite understand what the crossover setting actually did, It just tweaks the level at which the sub comes in, but the satellites still run at full frequency range, right?
