Hi,

I just purchased a new Samsung TV and put it in my lounge to replace the 5 year old Samsung LCD I had in there. I demoted my old bedroom TV (Philips) and put the Lounge Samsung in there, so now I have a Samsung in the lounge, and a Samsung in the bedroom.

The output from the MySky in the lounge is piped through to the bedroom, and it works perfectly fine for us. I have a wireless RF transmitter for changing the Sky channel when we are in bed (have a Harmony in the lounge and the original Sky remote in the bedroom).

My issue now is that whenever I turn on (or off) the Samsung in the bedroom, it toggles the power on the lounge TV (so when we have gone to bed, and then switch off the bedroom TV, the Samsung in the lounge turns on...) Not ideal.

I cannot move the decoder in the lounge, and it is using one of those little mouse thingies from the IR receiver. The signal from the mouse thingy is obviously bouncing around the room and hitting the Samsung.

TL:DR

What I need is an IR transmitter that only passes through the signals from the Sky remote, and ignores the Samsung one - is there such a thing??

Is it one of those UFO extenders? If so the base unit has a blaster, you could try taping that up.

I am using the blaster (little red 'mouse' like thing).I may try taping it to the MySky, but at present it is on the table directly underneath the IR receiver on the MySky. I do not think it has line of sight tot he TVs IR receiver. I think it is a reflection causing it, so I really need something to extend only the MySky remote.

There used to be a little RF transmitter that replaced one of the batteries in the remote, but I cannot remember what they are called.

Make sure the ir blaster is close to the mysky ir and shield it with some cardboard or similar.

Has anyone used this or anything similar?

Yep. I have two of those. Is the transmitter only in the original mysky remote? If so then you shouldn't have any issues...

Are you using the eye on the cable?  If not use that attached to the mysky (do not cover the ir window completely so you can still control it while in that room) and then tape up the front of the blaster (silver ufo) so it is not transmitting the ir signal as well.

I know you don't use the harmony remote in the bedroom at the moment, but you could check to see if the tv models you have, have a discrete on and off code rather than just a power toggle. There are sometimes manufacturer codes in the harmony database for this, even though there aren't any on the oem remotes that came with the tvs. That way hitting 'off' in the bedroom at least won't toggle the lounge tv on. Means another harmony remote though.
Another option is to shield the sensor in the bedroom so it doesn't receive the tv ir signals, just the sky ones. Might reduce the flexibility in using the sky remote though.
If your new tv is controllable by app, you would at least be able to turn it off from the bedroom if you have a compatible mobile device.

That is a good idea, I think the TVs do have a discreet off. The issue potentially with that is if someone turns the bedroom TV off (while the lounge one is on) then both could turn off.

I think that little beastie from RapolloAV may be the answer. I assume it only works with the remote the RF transmitter is inserted into?

Can we back the truck up a bit here? Are you saying you don't currently have a rapollo sender that you linked to earlier? All the advice (well mine anyway) was based around the fact that you had one of those....

I think maybe you have a set similar to pictured below? This would make sense as it will retransmitting all IR and not just the mysky IR.

The Rapollo one will work for just the mysky as it is remote specific however perhaps a bit of moving of the IR receiver you already have may sort the issue.

Cheers, Matt.

Sure, the X-ray...uses a RF battery (it replaces one of the std batteries in the remote of the device you want to control) and will only control (in your case) the Sky decoder.

Cheers

Are you sure it's the remote turning the TV on/off?

Make sure the Samsung Anynet feature is turned off first...

Definitely the remote (I can do it on demand).

I do not have the x-ray unit, I just have a basic one that sends all IR. Looks like the xray is the fella I need.

I will try moving the receiver end around a bit though.

Yep, have used one of those with MySky for around 4 years now and it works flawlessly.

Agreed, biggest "get out of jail" since Colditz if, there's no wired infrastructure...it's the "powerline" equivalent for ir!

Cheers
