Can you run from an inverter?

Depending on your electronic skills, here's a quick take-apart - seems they run 3.4v internally, so that may be an option?

Can't you just use a Raspberry Pi?

Am wanting the 12v unit for a $250 12v 19" TV in a cupboard at the spa pool! Have Sky out there ok (via RF) but all our stored media is via Apple TV. Would be just so much easier to access all that if had Apple TV and HDMI direct.
Will get one of my sparkie mates to put on his surgical kit and see what he can do - if it turns to custard anyone want to buy a eviscerated Apple TV?!

What about mounting it further away, and running a longer HDMI cable, and an IR extender for the remote?

Yeah thought about that but not easy to get the HDMI to where the TV is.
Thanks
