The Silicon Dust HD HomeRun looks like just what I need/want in my home network & media distro setup... the question I have is.. Is it still a relevant player?

There is a rather dated discussion elsewhere on the forums - but, given the date of the thread, and the fact I recently tried to buy one and ended up with a "we don't stock these, trying to see if we can get some in", I thought I'd seek the wisdom of the crowds before I spend my rare and intermitantly granted technology update budget.

I've got structured cabling, I'm extending it to other spots I'd want to pick up the DVB-T feeds, I'm looking for low-power, always on devices that I can use amongst a range of platforms/devices... are there better options in 2013, or is the HomeRun still the shiz?

You might want to look at this, which is just a rebranded hdhomerun I think and ship to NZ:

personally ive gone a different route, i have a windows server with DVB-T2 PCIe cards installed and then I just access tv from thin clients.

currently im just using my samsung tv as the client (so no additional htpc), ive used a ouya (tv was ok in xbmc), raspbmc (tv didnt work well in this for me), old cheap htpcs (tv was great, but not a thin client). and im using nextpvr as the tv server.

unless you want to record shows on different devices which you want to keep separate (multiple user household, maybe with kids recording/watching stuff in their bedrooms), I'd rather have all recordings centralised on the one server and just stream it to the clients.

They are the (only) vendor listed on PriceSpy, price listed at 205 NZD.

The Kaiser Baas option works out cheaper at 129 AUD (~150 NZD)

I have one but it is still in the box - simply because we only have OSX and oob it is way too hard to get set up and the cabling is a nightmare from the router to the tv antenna socket

Does anyone know if they're ever going to release a DVB-S2 capable unit? I'd quite happily upgrade my cards to these and downgrade the size of my server if they where available... Searched the site but the information seems quite sparse.

Kaiser Baas is just a reseller and they managed to get white label versions.

I have a HDHomeRun at home and it's seriously a good DVB-T unit. I can watch live TV through our HTPC in the lounge, but if I'm in the home office and see something on Twitter I can just as well start a client on my laptop (either Windows or Mac OS).

Waiting for an Android tablet client - that would be killer...

Toyed with using it together with my Synology NAS, with limited success (didn't spend much time as I have other priorities) but the idea was/is to reencode it and make it available through the OpenVPN service so I can "sling" the content to anywhere in the world where I want to connect from. Crazy, but who knows?

Mine worked reasonably well for a while with tvheadend as the server and xbmc as clients. The tvheadend web interface was nice for scheduling recordings.

At some point tvheadend stopped working though and I haven't had a chance to figure out why, so lately I just use it with Media Centre on Windows 8. It's just easier, lol.

Yes, my HTPC is Windows 7 Media Center. It "just works" (TM).

My Kordia Mux strength is a bit low. My Samsung TV is fine but I struggle to record over DVB-T and use DVB-S instead.

Don't have one at the moment. I had a loan one for a while, but at our old house the HVR-2200 was reliable.

Haha I was about to post this same question.

I've just ordered one so I'll let you know.

My TV & HTPC are on a trolley that we swing around to face in different directions according to which room we are in. My TV card isn't enjoying having the rather stiff antenna cable being yanked around in the socket.

Also I'm anticipating a boomerang daughter next year so I'm wanting to set up a TV supply to our sleepout.
