Wow, who else has seen one of these in action yet?

Just saw a Samsung 4K TV at Noel Leeming today. What an amazing picture and colours it had.

Seen the Sony.

Looked very good.

Source was digital files off a Sony HDD thingy.

Waste of time at the moment as there is no native 4k material to play on the TVs.

I was thinking the same thing, there is no native content. Shame, as the picture makes the 1080 TVs look very average in comparison.

I think the Sammy was going for 8 grand.

Won't be long though. The question though is what medium it will comn on. I imagine that it will be all streamed online.

If setting up a home network, what would be the best home network wiring to take 4k transmissions? Is cat 6 or cat 6a enough?

^^^

With such high definition now a reality, suddenly UFB looks like a good idea.

2 years time they'll be under 1k (hoping).

The issue is the lack of 4k source and transmission chain upgrades --  the cost of going from SD to HD was huge  -- I'm not sure people are ready to pay all that money again -- new cables, new tv's , new satellites , new Settop boxes and so on.    Heres hoping 10 meters of in wall hdmi can be upgraded.

I wonder if 4k might see off the end of traditional TV.

Wouldn't you be better to use network cable instead of HDMI cable? I am guessing many of these new 4k tvs will have the software built in to stream content directly when they become mainstream. I am guess 5 years before they come down to 1k.

Im keen on one regardless of content being available due to the smaller pixel count, so I can go bigger without the eyestrain from constantly trying to focus on the pixel edges. Should let me get up to about 80" for the bedroom tv without problems.

Really for content I would like to see a greater framerate before more resolution, as the more frames that motion plus etc get given, the fewer glitches it has.

I can tell you one thing - Sky's low bitrate SD MPEG2 broadcasts look completely and utterly terrible on a 4K TV.

The HDMI 2.0 standard that was released earlier this month will allow for higher frame rates, so that's great news. As the new Sony UHD TV's will receive a firmware update to achieve HDMI 2.0 compatibility, I'm hoping they'll do the same for the PS4!!
Really, stores that are stocking 55" UHD TV's are missing the point, it NEEDS to be 65" or bigger! Projectors + 80" TV's are the business when it comes to the high resolution we're getting now.

Next up, widely available OLED UHF panels with decent life spans...

at 55" I think it would be a great PC screen - if they would put displayport on them instead of old HDMI/DVI or whatever.

So they look exactly the same as on a 1080 screen then ;)

The macroblocking is so bad on some sky channels that it gets shadows made by the 200Hz processing like you sometimes see on onscreen graphics on panning shots.

You'll want this then...

http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/panasonic-tc-l65wt600/4505-6482_7-35827200.html

Display port 1.2 + HDMI 2.0 as standard. Should be in NZ mid-to-late October apparently!

If it's anything like most of their TV's with built-in cameras, it's only accessible when you open the Skype app?

Well looking at samsungs track record of insecurity in their smart televisions, that isnt something I would count on.

The only reason I even have my TV allowed on the internet is that its inbuilt youtube player is by far the best picture quality compared to anything I have tried feeding into the hdmi port of it. Its a no camera model which I made sure of when I bought it.
