There are many references to wireless HDMI in older threads on GZ but they are fragmented and many seem to now be out of date.

I would be grateful for any current advice or comment on the current state of this art. We wish to link our main HT gear to a small HD TV in the kitchen downstairs, almost immediately below the main TV. The straight-line separation is less than five meters but running an HDMI cable or a two-CAT 5/6 cable arrangement would be very difficult and require major surgery to the house.

In particular I would be keen to know if anyone has had any experience with this Belkin product, ScreenCast:

I have a screencast that I won, quite literally sitting in the cupboard, unused, in a box... if you want it, it's $100.

Yup, sure is. 4 x HDMI inputs etc.
All still in the sealed box, I've got absolutely no need for it.

Most of the cheaper ones are out of stock... the closest to in-stock is priced at $94.51 and without shipping.

I've seen Harvey Norman selling theirs for $299 or so...

I believe Eracode bought one (AV4)?? I did as well but the remote was DOA so had to send the whole thing back. I got it working using a universal remote first though.

Through wall penetration is pretty crap. I was running it about 12m and it couldn't get a lock. Will try some other positions when the replacement turns up.

Cheers :-) It's good to know as I was quite reluctant to bite on the $300 price tag and Harvey Norman store has one and I don't see that unit being moved from the shelf, then again, I haven't seen it being displayed lately too.

Friend tried one to get signal to their wall mounted TV that noone thought to put anything other than RF thru to when building the house.

Anyway, it was a total waste of time, droppouts, failuer to do anything most of the time and needed the source unplugged and replugged to get anything outputting to it all the time.

Without a passthru for the inputs, they are really limited since if you have those sources being used at the other tv then you would need 4 of 2 way HDMI splitters to actually be able to use them. As it was they just had a 2 way splitter on the output of the home theater amp, one to the TV in the home theater, the other to the sender. It had about 4 meters to go thru one basic gib and timber wall, and that was too much for it.

Fairly certain it was, came from harvey normans - was over xmas that they had it, and then returned it so I doubt they would even recall.

At the $100ish price its tempting to get one for the TV I move around the garage to use from the PC with a wireless keyboard and mouse, but I cant see anywhere if they list the 1080P as being 60 or just 24Hz.

I bought a Belkin Screencast AV4 from PB Tech for $101 and It works perfectly - have had none of the issues reported by other posters here. I'm rapt with it - it solved a very tricky issue for us.

I put a Screencast AV4 in at customers house in the weekend, to replace another wireless HDMI unit that was faulting constantly. Running through 1x timber/gib wall and over about 15m = works great, says it has excellent signal

The Belkin specs do not say whether its 24 or 60 fps for 1080p 2D HD but do say 24 fps for 3D, which it supports, along with 5.1 sound. My guess is that it's 24 fps all round.

Unless they employ something akin to 802.11ac, then I'd consider them as not up to the task in a reliable fashion. Consumer grade 802.11n (and prior) doesn't have the range/penetration to make this truly useful IMO.
