I've discovered my old amp in the garage and would like to use the 2 speaker I also discovered and attach to the PC. Currently I have no sound card.

Can anyone plz tell me if this is possible and if so, suggest a suitable card plz - I'm not after high end HiFi.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum?

Most sound cards will give you a mini jack output. you just need to take that and plug it into the Tape / Aux input. You would normal Mini-Jack to 5 pin DIN cable. You may have to hunt around to find one or The Real Music Company in Wellington could sell you one.

Presumably if you don't have a sound card then you will have onboard sound on the motherboard which your speakers are plugged into? Most Motherboards these days normally have onboard sound and video.
Just plug a 3.5mm stereo to 5 pin din cord into the sound out and in to the amp.

Just to be clear for the OP - the standard 'headphone' jack on your computer will do the trick, with the appropriate cable

Ahhh - good ol' Naim. I've got a Nait II in storage too - love how the plug doesn't even concede to "CD" as an input.

The above cable advice is good, but one thing to note, make sure the cable you buy is correctly wired for a Naim or you won't get stereo output. I recall buying DSE 5-pin DIN cables back in the day and running into this problem.

But you might run into the aforementioned pin wiring issues with this.

...or finally, you could go to Jaycar etc. and pick up the bits to make your own cable :)

Ok - the best NZ quote I've had is $160. I guess this was a top end cable. I'm not into that quality of sound as I mentioned earlier. So, just ordered one off Amazon and it will come here via GB (they won't mail to NZ - so had to go via a friend), for $10 all up.

Proof of the pudding will be in the plugging in. I should have it next week.

You can order the plugs from JayCar and wire them up yourself very cheaply if you get impatient.

If it's really getting on, I'd look at getting the mains capacitors (at least) replaced before plugging it in. Old caps have a habit of drying out and catching fire.

Surplustronics had one when I last needed one to run a retro amplifier off something, it may have been RCA to din, but once you have it at RCA then its a common adapter to a 3.5mm

Out of curiosity I clicked on the Jaycar link to see what the total cost might be. Two parts at $1.50 = $3.

Then I went to the checkout and got the above message popup.

Considering if I got the 2 parts and then I'd need cable plus solder plus know-how [and I don't have ANY of these items], still cheaper to get via Amazon. I can wait...............
