I have just received my Chromecast and have it set up on a TV - apparently correctly. However, when trying to 'cast' from my iPad, YouTube works fine but Netflix does not. Netflix is working OK on my iPad itself but when I bring up the 'cast' option and tell it to use Chromecast, I just get the red Netflix splashscreen on the TV and a never-ending rotating buffering symbol.

Would appreciate any thoughts. I have downloaded the latest version of the Netflix app which came out only a couple of days ago. Chromecast also did not work with the old app.

Overall I am somewhat underwhelmed with the Chromecast working with the iPad. There are now only two media that can be cast - YouTube and Netflix. If I can't sort out the Netflix I will sell the Chromecast here or on Trademe.

I have now downloaded the Chromecast and Netflix Android apps and have them on my HTC One.

I reset the Chromecast from the phone (previously done from the iPad) and have exactly the same problem. The CC appears to be properly set up and YouTube will work but Netflix won't.

Keen to receive any comments, thoughts, advice.

As I said earlier, pretty underwhelmed by CC.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

vpn issue? (your tv will need to use vpn to access netflix rather than direct access, eg. youtube etc). maybe you can find a youtube video that is blocked via country (NZ) and see if you can play it using chromecast, if you can then it's less likely a vpn issue.

Yes, because I have the same issue on both platforms (iOS and Android), I feel it's a router/VPN issue but, sorry, don't really follow what you are saying.

I have tried all sorts of things on this, none of which have worked.

same issue on both platforms doesn't mean it is not a vpn issue on tv.

google instructions on setting a vpn for your tv.

It is an issue with the chromecast. The google DNS settings are hardwired into the chromecast. You need to have a router capable of interecepting DNS queries and sending them to your DNS provider. If you google "Chromecast outside the US" you will get plenty of info. You will find that youtube works fine as it is not geographically disabled.
