Hi
My hdmi matrix switch can output sound as either 2 channel Pcm 48khz or 5.1 channel dolby digital.
Which option is best when outputting to my Onkyo tx-nr609 reciever. My receiver allows me to set
up audio presets where it will output the pcm signal in other formats such as PL II THX Cinema.
What is the best option to get good surround sound when playing DVDs or BluRays?
Cheers

For DVD set to Dolby Digital.

For BD send bitstream direct to your AVR.

Dolby digital all the way.

If you dont want to send bd direct to avr use dolby digital.

Just bitstream everything to the receiver, its DAC will do a better job.

Why would you downmix to stereo then have your amp try and restore it back to 5.1?
Rather illogical as you would end up with only virtual 5.1 instead of the real thing.
