I'm just interested in seeing if people are watching 3 for that reason. Not the only reason clearly, but does it influence what news you watch? I realise if you hate Prison Break you won't start watching it now!

No, I watch 3 news anyway. Would be nice if they could redo all there graphics for 16:9. Bit of a mix and match at the moment.

yeah like Sports Tonight, the titles are in 4x3 and then they mix to a 16x9 picture. Yet they changed the baseline keys to 16x9!

By the way, TV3 and C4 have recently (last couple of hours) turned up on the 12.456GHz mux as predicted.

I had left mums sky set to letterbox, she hated watching the news on 3 on sky because of the postagestamp sized images so changed to the vhf feed.

Bloody shambles having the news in 16:9 when nothing they show is actually wide...

Awesome thanks for that!

Yeah. Thats what I would expect to see. The problem is some US stations like CBS and UK, ITV are still 4:3 native, so that will cause ongoing issues. It's weird it bothers others and some not at all (like me)!

I have switched because of the widescreen. I prefer seeing things in the correct aspect even if that does mean getting black lines down the sides although would prefer it all widescreen of coarse.

Hi, Yes I watch more TV3 now it is widescreen, it just looks better. As for UK tv e.g. BBC, ITV and SkyNews all record and broadcast in Widescreen and and have done for 5/6 years. so it is just they are passing on 4:3 tapes.

I aim to misbehave.

Might be that UK news feeds are all arc'd to 4:3 for lowest common denominator use.

You'll always have this happen when a channel moves to widescreen.  A vast amount of content in their libraries are only recieved in 4:3...  TV3 news are probably using some library footage for some stories, as well as overseas stories which are only available in 4:3. They could stretch the image out and cut the top/bottom of the 4:3 image, but the pic quality would look quite bad.

I already watch TV3 News so widescreen won't be a deciding factor in which news I watch. However, I'm using Telstraclear's Digital TV over cable in Christchurch and I'm not sure if TV3 is coming through as widescreen (???). National Geographic does however, looks good and I'll take widescreen broadcasts over 4:3 any day.

TV3 is in widescreen on TCL Digital. I'm guessing if you are receiving netional geographic fine in widescreen you have your STB and TV set to correct 16:9.

My STB is set to 16:9, full and my Sony DA32 is set to "Full". For some reason TV3 looks stretched whereas National Geographic comes up good. I'll have to fiddle around a bit more before my "geek stars" are taken away from me EmbarassedSmile

I rang TV3 last night - they said they had already received complaints, but had heard TelstraClear Wellington had stuffed up and were stretching their pictures. Of course I couldn't get through to Telstra on their stupid 0508 line - their robot told me there was a 60 minute wait.

Don't know what it's like now.
