Hi
We are in the process of moving/setting up an additional TV sets in our house. A bit tricky re wiring with existing walls so I need to get it right and (hopefully) make enough allowance for what may be required in the future.   Currently we havea  UHF aerial (non sky) and Sky aerial running into the lounge.  We do not have MySky. We need to have a TV in a different spo  in the lounge (on a wall)  and a second TV in the Kitchen. We are fine with the Sky channel being the same on both TV’s.    Wiring  into existing walls will be tricky but it can be done and my sparky and his cabling colleague are happy to drill up/down to make it work. so assume that is not an issue.  What I think  needs to be done is

  • a power point installed on a wall in the lounge

  • the current UHF feed from the aerial (non sky) split and cabled to the new location in the lounge and the kitchen

  • the sky feed (currently enters the lounge)cabled  to the decoder  kitchen and then split  there so that it can be sent back to the new location in the lounge. Or alternatively the decoder stays in the lounge and it is split there and sent to the lounge TV and kitchen

  • a CAT5 cable run between the kitchen and the lounge to enable an IR receiver/sender setup to allow us to alter the sky channel on the sky decoder from either place

What I am unsure of and am trying to figure out is

  • how we work in the hard drive recorder into this.  Currently it is setup with the Sky decoder... presumably I could do the same and have it changeable from either room?  And accessible from either TV??  really not sure about this

  • the need to  have HDMI plugs/cabling behind the TV in the lounge and appearing in a convenient place so we can easily plug in laptops etc.  And possibly the same for USB?

  • any cabling  required for speaker systems (even though that is not part of this project!)

  • whether I need to make consideration for apple TV or Roku?  Really not clear about this

  • anything else we might need to do that could be handy in the future

Also - we have pretty limited broadband (rural and using wireless)  and so realistically streaming a lot of stuff is not really an option.

I am also wondering of there is something that may make this all a lot easier .. media centre or something like that.. but I am really not sure. I have heard of a harmony device?  Would anyone be able to recommend anyone in Christchurch who does this sort of work and helps sort out the best setup.  -       thanks
