Hi,

I have an Onkyo receiver which does not support 3D pass through but which has 1 HDMI output and 4 HDMI inputs.

I now have more than 4 HDMI devices so on the advice of Rapallo I purchased an HMDI splitter (1 output 4 inputs) to give me additional ports and the 3D pass through for my 3D bu ray player.

Could someone please advise me how I connect the HDMI switch to the AV receiver  so that I can connect all of my HDMI devices through the receiver with sound, as I cannot seem to be able to do this.

I was led to believe that I could with the switch box.

I hope this makes sense!

Many thanks in advance.

Might it be an HDCP issue?

If you plug a single device into an HDMI on the receiver, confirm audio, then plug the switcher into the same port, and the same device into an input on the switcher, do you get video but no audio?

What make/model of splitter did you get?

Hi and thanks for your reply,

This was what Rapallo told me to buy http://www.rapalloav.co.nz/hdmi-2/hdmi-switcher-1/mini-hdmi-switcher-4x1-with-3d-passthrough.html

I
am confused though! I now have an HDMI switcher with one output and an AV receiver with one output. Before the switcher, i had the TV going to the HDMI output of the receiver and all components into the HDMI 'in', inputs of the receiver. Now I am not sure what I should be connecting to the outputs of both receiver and switcher?

How can I possibly connect the TV to the output of the HDMI switcher and the 3D blu ray player to one of the HDMI inputs of the switcher and still get the sound coming from the amp? How would I connect the switcher to the AMP?

In a nutshell I want to use the HDMI switcher with 3D pass through to connect TV and Blu Ray player together and still get sound from my amp? And spread the load of all my other HDMI components between switcher and amp! Rapallo said I could do this?

Am I way off the understanding here?

Thanks again for your time,

Scott

Just a quick look at it would say you can't do it using hdmi only. You won't be able to pass the 3d signal through the receiver at all. You will need to use optical or coax digital to your receiver for audio and hdmi via the switcher to your display. A messy setup with multiple switching involved to change inputs. Putting something prior to your receiver Will not overcome it's shortfalls, only bypassing it will give you 3d video.

If your receiver doesn't do 3D passthrough then I don't see how giving you a switch resolves that.

I'm presuming Rapallo suggested that switch as you can plug 4 HDMI items into the switch and plug the HDMI out of the switch into one of your four HDMI ins on your receiver.  This would leave you with 3 free HDMI in on your receiver, effectively giving you 7 inputs.

However, everything still routes through the receiver which isn't 3D passthrough so that will be where it breaks down.

Did you advise Rapallo that your receiver didn't do the 3D passthrough?

Depending on the other connection options on your Blu-ray and receiver you could connect the Blu-ray direct to your TV with HDMI and connect the Blu-ray to your receiver with optical to give you the sound.

Otherwise it's time you upgraded your receiver to something like this or this.
