Hi

We have been looking getting a large screen TV (after many years) and finding it difficult to make a choice... so many options!

Want 55"-60".    Not overly worried about SMart TV or 3D.. but if they are on the set.. then that's ok.   Would prefer the lower end spec.
Room is not overly light, but there are some bay windows down the end of the room opposite teh wall where the TV will go.

Ok.. did all the reading and seemed reasonable to go with plasma.    The LG 60PN6500 seemed to be right and gets very good reviews.
But when you look at Plasma in tehe shop versus LED's you can see the glass screen is more reflective, and it concerns me that we may have too much reflection given where we are going to put the TV in the room.
PLus, we had kind of liked the LED's... no issues with viewing from the side angle when we looked at in the shop,  and I'm sure that we would be a happy with one of these.
Looked at a Samsung  UA55F6400 which whilst lower end seemed pretty reasonable - good reviews and is also a Smart TV as well.

So a bit of a dilemma as I am sure that either would be fine... but.. this  reflection thing on Plasma concerns me.   Plus..if you have to keep a Plasma upright then an LED will be easier to bring home!

In conjunction with this, possibly looking a lowish end home theatre setup - out of the box type thing, but really unsure as to what would be appropriate to put with the TV...plus would like to be able to play music via mobile phones Ipads etc to it as well....

Any thoughts here... I suspect that we would be happy with either TV and, a modest HT setup would be fine too....

As stated in my previous posts I am returning to NZ from Australia in March 2014 after 30 years over this side of ditch. My present set up is:

PVR = Sony SVR-HD700 (HD digital) [no FreeView, only station EPG] (I will definitely be replacing this)
TV = Sony KVHR32M31 76cm CRT wide screen (I will definitely be replacing this)
AV Reciever = Sony STR-DB790 (6:1)
DVD = Sony DVP-NS52P (multi zone)

Non of the above has HDMI

Yes I too would like some details concerning this thread.  Will need a new TV in the 46" to 55" range. Not really fussed over 3D, though home network capable would be nice. (Apple network only)

Have read this post:HDTV Plasma Vs LCD Help Guide but this was written in 2008. Hasn't LCD/LED technology improved over Plasma since then.

My old 6:1 HT does not have HDMI so will properly be looking at upgrading that - Receiver only, will use current speakers. Again home network capable would be nice (Apple network only)

Not looking to spend big money - approx $1000/$1500 for TV and approx $800 HT receiver

Will also properly hook it up to a Magic MTV3700TD PVR

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I made the switch from LCD to plasma and haven't looked back. I got a Panasonic VT30, high end model but I bought as a run out as the next model was coming in. Daytime viewing is not that great but I seldom do that and just shut the curtains if I need to. But color and contrast is just so rich and beautiful. We have an LED in the bedroom and it seems very glowy and unnatural compared to the plasma.
