Execute22, whats your opinion on the Media Portal TV Engine. When I last looked at it (perhaps six weeks ago), it seemed not quite ready yet for serious use. Channel changing from the client was really slow and unstable. Since then I have gone back to GBPVR.

Has the later versions of Media Portal improved the TV Engine enough to be good for prime time, or would you wait a bit longer for it to settle down.

The concept of getting all the channels in a DVB-S MUX simultaneously is very appealing!

Cheers Mike

It is. If you have an Aurora card however you can watch it.

Depends on what day you ask me! I guess it's getting pretty good now but yeah still buggy and some very frustrating. But given the option go to back to MP 0.2.2.2 TV engine (fairly stable), I'd miss the features too much since I do I have a bedroom client and the feature to record multiple channels on one card (MUX) is very handy. I've never used GBPVR, and I've heard lots of good things about it and some bad too.

Yeah I guess I could get more detailed but to be honest it's really just a matter of getting a dish and PCI DVB-S card, installing the software and scanning for channels; if you don't have any issues it's pretty much that easy. If (when) you have problems then searching answers; what I mean is that I couldn't cover all the possible problems you might have even if I got more detailed. However I'm more than happy to offer help to anyone who is setting a Mediaportal PVR with freeview.

Inspired by your setup, my brother is using the TV Server with Media portal,

hes unable to find freeview channel 3 and 4, and the tv server seems to be very unstable when played through media portal, wont go fullscreen, crashes, etc.

A guide of your settings for freeview on the TV server would be useful and maybe the mpeg 2 codecs your using in Media Portal?

Hes using Nova S card btw..

he can get all the freeview channels using the crap bundled Nova S app.

cheers!

Ok yeah I'll get around to adding some freview specific details to the page. Are you able to get any channels via the nova-s?

Ensure you scan both 12483 (TV1, TV2, MaoriTV, V8s channel) and 12456 (TV3, C4, NatRadio, ConcertFM).
