i have a TP Link TD-W8970 modem. AMD A4-5300 Htpc and Intel G2020 whs 2011 server.
To cut space and maybe just maybe save a little power I have got the asustor nas.

on ethernet.
whs 2011 to htpc download file is 93 MB/s
asustor to htpc download same file 11 MB/s

on wifi
whs 2011 to laptop 9 MB/s

asustor to laptop 500 to 600 kb/s so a 390 MB file takes around 20 minutes to transfer.

These are with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit going to Computer then Network and copy from asustor and server from there to a folder on computer.

On setting up asustor it immediately upgraded to latest firmware.
I have upgraded modem firmware to latest as well with no change.

So where to start to improve speeds. On the reviews I have seen they all get better speeds

Sounds like a bad cable to me ... or you have hard set the port speeds on the Asustor and auto set the speeds on the switch ports (or vice versa), the port settings on both ends of the cable need to match.

I never thought about swapping the cable out. Will give it another go tomorrow. They supplied 2 cables

You say on setup... is it quite new? Took 2 days for the RAID to sync on mine, and was awful slow till then

yeah it turned up Monday morning and took 2 days to setup syncing and then another day and half swapping files over. Both units have same make and model hard drives

So RAID status is in sync?

I had issues when it was in my wireless router on a 100mb outlet, moved it to the same segment gb and it flew

yes raid is in sync. couldnt even access the unit while it was syncing. maybe I will have to get a separate router even though it was fine for whs

well not perfect but acceptable now.
Replaced the ethernet cable and now have 4.5 MB/s transfer speeds over wifi and 53MB/s over ethernet. Half of what whs was but at least now acceptable

See easy fix :-)

So what RAID level did you choose ? How many drives ? What filesystem format (ext ? ZFS?) Those all have factors on performance.

4 2TB drives. Raid 5. dont know what file system as storage manager just says raid 5. When I put the drives in and turned it on for first time it set it all up automatically.
WHS also 2TB drives originally set up mirrored then later installed drivepool
