Did anyone else have problems recording TV3's S.A.S. programme?

My new Sony DVD recorder displays "... unrecordable.." from time to time while recording this programme, & inserts blank bits into the recording.

Several possible causes come to mind:
Govt suppression of recording sensitive stuff? (surely not..)
Sony recorder can't handle something in the broadcast? eg fuzzed-out faces - except that it has handled this OK in other broadcasts..
Broadcast of "copy protection" signals? (can this be done??)
Faulty recorder?

Anyone got any ideas??

NB:  this is in UHF analogue broadcast - not digital..

It sounds like you may have a noisy signal and your DVD recorder is mistaking noise on the Sync Pulses for Macrovision Copy Protection.

Weird, but that's the only explanation I can think of given that your DVD recorder is brand new.

Your TV3 signal would be on VHF (channel 7 - 11 or thereabouts) not UHF wouldn't it?

Cyril may have some other ideas.

Yes, it is VHF - sorry..

So far it only appears on this particular programme & only on TV3, & our reception looks pretty good.
I haven't recorded a lot of programmes on the recorder yet though.
I'll see how it goes again tonight.

Thanks for your interest..

There have being cases before on C4 where some stuff broadcast still had the dont copy bit in the VBI, and it would make recorders pause. Apparently the issue was sourcing stuff off DVD, and it makes it the wholeway thru the playback system without change only to screwup dvd recorders which think your trying to dub off a dvd.

Perhaps there were parts of the show that were sourced off something similar?
