Hi,

I recently picked up a Gigabyte HA91 HTPC running MCE2005, but it came without the Gigabyte Wireless KB and Remote. I'm guessing I can just buy a MS MCE remote and use the infrared receiver that comes with that (and then potentially also get the MS MCE keyboard), but I was just wondering if anyone knows of any remote controls or wireless KB's that are compatible with the HA91's built in receivers.

I've done a bit of a google and emailed Gigabytes tech support but no luck so far.

Cheers,

Theoretically any IR remote should work with the built in receiver, it's just a matter of having software support. The MCE remote and keyboard use a MS driver built into Windows which makes things easier. Devices such as the Hauppauge and Gigabyte remotes may require the use of software such as Girder or HIP to get them working properly.

I hope you got it cheap then :0)

My HA91 came with MCE remote + IR reciever, and the Gigabyte RF keyboard.

I thought I didnt like the keyboard, and bought an MCE keyboard to replace it, but after 2 days use, I couldnt stand the MCE 'board any longer, and returned to the Gigabyte unit. The trackball is great.

RF range is a bit weak, maybe i need better batteries (Oxyride or whatever they are passing off as being the best battery these dasy).

Should be fine with any PC mouse/combo. Id really like a wireless keyboard with a laptop style touchpad rather than a trackball or pointer.

Thanks Guys,

Sounds like I'll get a MCE remote then and look around for a nice keyboard, I must admit that I when I initially looked at the MS MCE keyboard I thought it looked quite nice, but then when I took a closer look and noticed the "nipple" control for the mouse I changed my mind a little.

BTW, it was cheap :)

Cheers,

Using an MS MCE remote with the gigabyte receiver should work ok (MS MCE KB, I doubt it) depending on what software you use with with it. I've got a MCE remote and KB and really like both. I bought the keyboad because it has the thumb pointer and at the time I couldn't find any half decient KBs with any pointing device built in. I like the idear of a track ball though. The thumb pointer isn't awesome but it works ok once you get used to it. Also I like the fact that the keyboard in infrared. Supprised? I was. It works really well though and at much greater distances than most RF KBs and you don't have to be that acurate and point right at the receiver or anything. :-)

just my 2cents

Well, my MCE Remote turned up and I'm pretty happy with it - in my case tho I wasnt able to get the Remote working with the HA91 without using the IR receiver that came with the MS remote. No biggie tho.

The HA91 doesnt have an IR reciever. The keyboard uses RF. The MCE IR reciever you have is the only way to use it - so no panic there.

Its good for me, because I have the reciever sitting just under my Plasma screen - so pointing the remote at the TV is right thing to do!
