I have a very hot Onyko TX-nr807 home theatre amp. Regardless of the load. It's even warm to touch if just left on with nothing attached to it.
Sorry I've no temps to give a more accurate measurement. I'm inyending to get some fans to lower the noise level of my htpc and just wondered if adding fans to the amp my help
it lower it's temperature. I checked out Corsair sp\ap 120 fans and they seem exactly what I need. Has anyone tried this before. Any advice welcome.

A quick google image search for Onkyo and Fan produces many DIY cooling jobs. I've been thinking of doing the same to mine as it gets very warm to the touch which cannot be good.

A mate of mine who was flatting at the time and powering a set of Cerwin Vega 500w floor speakers rigged up a car fan using a transformer to force air through the unit to keep it cool. During parties it would be cranked up so loud that it would over heat and cut out if the fan wasn't turned on.

Those were the good old days.

My old Yamaha had an option to turn it's fan on full time. Otherwise the idea of running a fan to keep it cool can't be a bad one.

You can get some pretty cool gadgets for keeping an eye on your temps and having fans go on for you, check out the following link for a case thermostat, we have done a few installations where this type of system has paid themselves off with not having the fans running continuously for our clients. Adding cooling to any electrical system is always going to be a good thing, especially if the Amp is in an enclosure where there is not a lot of air movement.
