I'm looking to get a pair of front speakers. Aesthetically I don't particularly care whether I go floor standing or smaller on stands. Used for both music and movies, I have an average-ish sub, and will be driven by an Integra 6.6.

I had a listen to a set of $1400 Focals and of coarse loved them.....but budget-wise I'm thinking maybe closer to $500...I realise that's limiting but that's life.

Anyone any recommendations/thoughts/ideas?

I have a pair of Polk Audio bookshelf speakers which I have been meaning to put up on Trademe for a while now. They are a fantastic sounding speaker.

PM me if you might be interested and want more details. I live in St Marys Bay (Auckland).

I have a pair of RTi38's in black (wood cabinets have faded a bit over time) which cost me $1,099. Approx 10 years old.

I also have the matching subwoofer which is model PSW303 and cost me $899. Approx 9 years old.

Finally, I have a pair of glossy white Dynaudio speaker stands which I purchased for the RTi38's last year but upgraded to floor standing speakers shortly after so the speaker stands are practically new. They cost $499. http://www.dynaudio.com/int/home_loudspeaker_systems/accessories/stand_3x.php

I've not got around to putting them on Trademe yet for two reasons. 1) sheer laziness, and 2) I haven't researched the value of them yet (other than the speaker stands which are almost brand new).

If you bazzer, the OP who I couldn't quite make out his reply ;-), or anyone else is interested in some or all of this, please let me know. I've got massive pressure from the boss to put these on TM now so if you are quick we can do a deal outside of TM and both benefit :-)

EDIT: added link to speaker stands

Sorry, I haven't received a PM from you.  Just a part message posted to this thread.

Well that's annoying, I hit send, but I see it's not in my messages folder either so I guess the interweb fairies took it.

Anywho, I pretty much asked what the other poster asked...what, how much etc. I'm in Napier though so I guess freight is an issue.

So anywhoo...back to the speakers. Am I playing it too safe/boring by just grabbing some Wharfedale 10.1's? If I wanted to add a centre then I would have spent as much as an entry level pair of Focals.....would that be dumb? Any other suggestions for music plus TV in the $500-ish range? Not overly fussed about surrounds, can always add them later if I decide I miss them.

There's nothing wrong with 10.1's to be honest. They get poo-poo'd by hifi stores as they're available at the mass merchant retailers. Take a listen, if you like them... then, well the answer is pretty simple.

wharfedale diamond 10.1s are pretty decent but budget for a good pair of stands.

the old diamond 9.6 floorstander is still a favourite and you may be lucky to find a used pair for $500-ish.
