Hi,
I am looking for a new mini PC to act as my HTPC to enable me to retire an old Vaio laptop, but am struggling to align function with expectation....

I have been looking at a BRIX GB-BXi7-4770R which is pretty powerful and includes the Iris Pro graphics.

I generally only stream Netflix, MS office and I like to play Sins of a Solar Empire !!! What I really want is something that is quiet but will let me do most general stuff and be good for a few years, im not interested in playing Crysis and I have Blu-ray covered separately. I will be using Windows 8.1 and don't mind paying a little more if needed and normally just get the most powerful, but that sort of defeats the purpose for a HTPC I think

Any thoughts on the above spec or possibly something more realistic?

cheers

I bought a BRIX i3 via Amazon, including memory and mSATA SSD. Very quiet (as in the fan almost never comes on), plays HD pretty well. I didn't get anything more powerful simply because this is a dedicated HTPC with no gaming involved.

It can be, my current Vaio has an I5 processor with an ATI Radon 5650 and that's over three year old now and runs it very well So I suppose whatever I get want to make sure that I get a step up.

If you want an i7 that's ok, but the Intel NUC i5 is on sale at Amazon today.
